GABF. One of the favorites. Nice Dark pour with decent head. Lots of dark fruit and chocolate aromas. More on the flavor. Roasted malt and coffee too. Very good xmarcnolanx (940) - Kirkwood, Missouri, USA - OCT 18, 2007

Alcoholic twinge on the nose with chocolate notes. Taste is very smooth chocolate with a slight alcoholic finish. Very nice and well balanced. Hops do not really come through as much as I would have expected. Very good. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 4, 2007
Yet another mason jar from the Samurai!! Thanks Exra! Looked a touch flat in the jar, but had a very welcoming rising carbonation in the glass when poured.. nice and black with just a little bit of deeper beige head sticking around. The aroma picked up lots of dark chocolate, mild coffee, and a little bit of vanilla with a bit too much alcohol apparent.. otherwise warm and very enticing! The flavor was large and imposing.. lots of dark chocolate that was fueled by alcohol, darker fruits, and anise.. warm alcohol and lots of dark malt on the back-end through the warm finish.. delightfully complex and enjoyable! Heavy on the palate with a little less carbonation than I’d like (but probably due to the effort in getting it to me).. top freakin’ notch on all fronts! Mason jar (!) from SamuraiArtist - thanks, Ezra! Straight from Belmont Station, this one is a lovely, viscous, and complex RIS that holds up nicely with some of the better versions of the style. Oily black, with a satisfying mix of malt sweetness, mild bourbon and chocolate notes, and a modest roast through the middle. It’s got a hefty body, as is appropriate, but is just slightly lacking in carbonation - not a big problem with this style, but I wonder if the brew has suffered a bit in its journey to me. Would love to try it fresh, but as is it’s still an awesome RIS. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - SEP 16, 2007
This beer is so hard to track down, finally found it on tap at Belmont Station today. Pours black with a small brown head. Very rich roasted chocolate body. Notes of rich chocolate meld with a fruity brandy and faint burnt flavors. Very heavy feeling beer that packs a punch.

Fluffy off-white greyish head with a deep and slightly reddish opaque black body. Bright, alcoholic aroma with obvious chocolate, coffee, and other rich notes. Dry and delectable. Grrreat! kp (10880) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - SEP 1, 2007

black, short lived, thin fine brown head, sweet vanilla and chocolate aroma, very hot, roasted malt flavor but even that is obscured by the hot alcohol,

From a growler: Pours black with a 1 finger tan head. Aromas of chocolate and malt with lots of bourbon like spice. Flavor is malty and roasty, all the usual chocolate and coffee notes, creamy, slight bitterness, spicy hpps or bourbon i dont know. Oaky vanilla flavors. Rich and fullof flavor but not over the top. Draft at Walking Man in Stevenson, OR on 7/22/07. Black on black body with a very durable creamy brown head and beautiful lace. Rich coffee aroma, accented with some dark chocolate, and dark fruit. Heavy body with light carboantion and a luxurious thick and creamy feel. Burnt sugar, chocolate, and sweet riated malts are balanced by a peppery bitterness in a ling and satisfying finish. This is really a nicely done Impy Stout. jake65 (3986) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - MAY 9, 2007
Growler from Indiana_Red: Pours a dark brown, near black with a large tanned head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, and hints of the high ABV. Tastes off dark fruits, toasted malt, coffee, and light bittersweet cocoa. Nice lingering and warming finish.
