How did I know Walking Man was going to make this beer rock? GABF 2004. Slightly astringint aroma, but not detracting believe it or not. Great head on this. Palate is soft, malty and quite nice. Taste of vanilla, oak, and coffee bean. Finish is bitter from the good hopping that is so needed in and IS. Walking Man rules!

GABF 2006. The beer has a CRAZY mousse looking head that could be eaten with a spoon. Black body. The aroma is sweet chocolate silk pie and graham crackers. Mocha. The flavor is rich chocolate silk pie. Creamy. Sorta one-dimensional. Rich and extremely full mouthfeel. Too one-dimensional, but still was quite good.

On tap at the Dog and Pony in Renton. Pours and opaque black with a brown head. Coffee and vanilla aroma. Full creamy body with light carbonation. Is there something more than full body? Sweet, almost syrupy taste with chocolate, vanilla, nuts, dark fruit and roasty malt. Pretty clean finish, given all that’s going on in the taste.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2007 Oily black pour, deep brown ringlets inside of a tightly compacted beige head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, toffee, cream, dark fruits and alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet as well, with very well rounded, expressive and balanced flavors of cherries and strawberries, chocolates, hefty malts and a whiplash of roastiness in the end. Palate is medium to full bodied, mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Finishes sweet, then mildly dry. This beer holds its own. Very delicious.

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café: Black as night, moderate light Brown head, frothy, spotty lacing.   Sweet roasted malt nose.   Slight hints of dark pitted fruit and chocolate, very subtle but noticeable.   Its definetely not a gagger (Daysha says so).   Slight alcohol but its manageable.   Smooth, very smooth.   More and more fig/date/prune emerges as it warms.   If this is 12.7%, you would never guess it.   Very full bodied.   Mouthfel is smooth, almost silky.   Clean finish, some hop bite on top of a huge bittersweet chocolate malt base.   Lingering dark pitted fruit.   Fantastic stuff!

Growler from Indiana_Red: Pours a dark brown, near black with a large tanned head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, and hints of the high ABV. Tastes off dark fruits, toasted malt, coffee, and light bittersweet cocoa. Nice lingering and warming finish.

Yet another mason jar from the Samurai!! Thanks Exra! Looked a touch flat in the jar, but had a very welcoming rising carbonation in the glass when poured.. nice and black with just a little bit of deeper beige head sticking around. The aroma picked up lots of dark chocolate, mild coffee, and a little bit of vanilla with a bit too much alcohol apparent.. otherwise warm and very enticing! The flavor was large and imposing.. lots of dark chocolate that was fueled by alcohol, darker fruits, and anise.. warm alcohol and lots of dark malt on the back-end through the warm finish.. delightfully complex and enjoyable! Heavy on the palate with a little less carbonation than I’d like (but probably due to the effort in getting it to me).. top freakin’ notch on all fronts!

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2010 Tap @ Walking Man... Poured black with a brown head. Strong, roasted malt and chalky characters on the nose. Really thick palate that had a nice sting to it. Chocolate syrup flavors with thick, robust, roasted malt, rice-like grains and coffee liquor towards the finish. Fairly light feel for 12.7%.

[3067-20100702] Sample. Thick woody roast malt aroma. Dark brown black body with a medium-lasting foamy dark brown head. Toasty roast malt flavour has long sweet roast malt and coffee roast notes. Full body. Very nice.
