GABF 2005: poured black with a brown head. Milk, chocolate and coffee aroma. Coffee and chocolate dominate the flavor with a touch of vanilla. Good beer that is very potent. SpringsLicker (3663) - Tennessee, USA - JUL 30, 2006

Black with a tan head.
Complex sweet aroma with loads of roasted malts balancing out the caramel.
Solid hop bitterness in the flavor that finishes with a dry palate. Alcohol that is well hidden. ryan (3186) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - AUG 17, 2006

From a growler: Pours black with a 1 finger tan head. Aromas of chocolate and malt with lots of bourbon like spice. Flavor is malty and roasty, all the usual chocolate and coffee notes, creamy, slight bitterness, spicy hpps or bourbon i dont know. Oaky vanilla flavors. Rich and fullof flavor but not over the top.

This beer is so hard to track down, finally found it on tap at Belmont Station today. Pours black with a small brown head. Very rich roasted chocolate body. Notes of rich chocolate meld with a fruity brandy and faint burnt flavors. Very heavy feeling beer that packs a punch. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 2, 2005

Growler split with jimbowood. Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and dark fruits. Taste has thick mouthfeel with chocolate flavor. Good. jercraigs (10731) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 17, 2010
2010-07-01. Black body has only a smattering of a head. 3+ Flavour of dark malt with a sort of tangy overtone, good amount of bitterness. Aroma has vaguely smokey/pepperette like character, muted roast. 7+ Smooth average to medium bodied palate. 3+ Perhaps it just didn’t fare well side by side with the Mikkeller Black Hole, this was decent but I found it a bit odd. On tap at Seattle International Beer Festival tiggmtl (4544) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 8, 2005
Roasted malts, soy and chocolate in the thick and sugary aroma. Opaque black body is topped with a low, dense, fine bubbled, tan head that lasts well and coats the glass with lacing. Strong hoppy and fruity flavour. Excellent malts are very dry and roasty. Medium full but dry body with strong carbonation. Sampled at GABF 2005.
