Hand bottle from jeremy. Thanks for going through all that it took to get your mitts on the bottle. I have been waiting for many years to get my dick beaters on this. Pours an absolute Ebony with a lighter tan, creamy head. This is very close to Expedition Stout in many ways which makes me realize how lucky I am to have this. Nose and taste in very complex, loads of coffee and molasses. Creamy and smooth for the ABV. Wow, a great RIS. Thanks again Jeremy!
On tap at the Red Hot. Black, thin tan head. Scent is dark chocolate. Taste is pretty hoppy. A little cherry. Tasty beer. bluefish42 (2) - - MAR 18, 2014 does not count
The first beer I?m rating on here. Not an expert on beer terminology yet but this was just fantastic in every way. Definitely a sipper; took me some time. Then I had to enjoy another. Good luck finding this treasure. For me it was at Roscoe’s in Portland about a week or two ago. Keep thinking about it. Ibrew2or3 (8913) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAY 1, 2011
I’m savoring this brew as rating number 4,000. 50belair (3701) - Florida, USA - MAR 23, 2011
I have wanted to try this for years and years now and this has been made possible by the uber generous Boise crew. Big thanks BuckeyeBoy (thanks Jeremy!) and of course my Dr. ditmier, as well as inflatablehair and JohnGalt1. The Boise crew is amazing.
It pours deep mahogany with fudge like hues, deep ruby edges and a nice mocha head. The aroma is bold with burnt toffee, thick, deep and rich dark fruity esters, fudge brownie and black strap molasses. I love the toffee - molasses biased in the nose. The taste is similar with burnt toffee, nice and rich dark fruity esters like prunes and berries to go along with a bit of a honey sensation. Into midway and rolling into the finish it picks up yummy chocolate and fudge. Awesome brew.
Big thanks to Christian for hooking me up with a flip top of this gem from the PNW. All kinds of flavors running around in here: burnt molasses, black liquorish, sweet smoke, dark roasted malts. WOW. Really impressive. Gotta make it out to WA and try this bad boy on tap.... Dickinsonbeer (5073) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 6, 2010
GABF 2010. Finally got a chance to try this beer after wanting it for about 8 years. Pours a nice big oily pitch black with some thin head- lasting. Aroma is oily, licorice, light smoke, big roast, big black dark chocolate, bittersweet, medium fruitiness- plum, raisin, dates. Flavor is coffee, roast, chocolate, fruits, almost get a woody oaky bourbon character, although not sure if this is BA? Inky plum, viscous body, vanilla, chocolate, some sweet molasses with a bitter finish and alcohol heat. GOod!

Sampled at the Great American Beer Festival on September 17, 2010. Dark, solid black color, medium brown head. Aroma is malty, but with only a hint of roast. Quite a surprise as it hits the palate… extremely sweet with light roasted malts. You can detect the alcohol... for sure. Has some sort of weird fruit-like character to it... cherry almost. hellbilly (3306) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - JUL 28, 2010
4/12/10 by way of dakine.
thick pour. brownish black with a small tannish head.
alcohol is up front and burns the snout quite a bit... past that are notes of chocolate, roast, vanilla, molasses, prunes, wood and lots of florals from the booze.
the flavor is the same... oddly dull though the body is full and slick. 6/4/6/4/14/3.4 jercraigs (11095) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 17, 2010
2010-07-01. Black body has only a smattering of a head. 3+ Flavour of dark malt with a sort of tangy overtone, good amount of bitterness. Aroma has vaguely smokey/pepperette like character, muted roast. 7+ Smooth average to medium bodied palate. 3+ Perhaps it just didn’t fare well side by side with the Mikkeller Black Hole, this was decent but I found it a bit odd. [3067-20100702] Sample. Thick woody roast malt aroma. Dark brown black body with a medium-lasting foamy dark brown head. Toasty roast malt flavour has long sweet roast malt and coffee roast notes. Full body. Very nice.

So this beer was so special that Eric even rated it. Handbottle thanks to Jeremy- thanks Buckeyeboy. Pours a pure black color with a medium frothy brown head. The aroma was rich and fruity, huge roasted malts. The flavor was heavy and almost oily (awesome), sweet roasted malts, lots of dark fruit, prunes and sweeter fruit, hot and somehow very smooth. A very good Impy. In fact, very damn good.
