Pours a nice dark amber red with a modest head. The aroma offers plenty of Columbus hops with lots of pine and orange; the flavor follows, bitingly dry with orange peel and a bit of pine, aggressively hopped but powerfully backed up by a full malt body; this is almost an IPA but for the intensity of the malt. Not much sweetness here, nor a particularly oily feel; rather, it’s a filling strong ale with a heavy hop focus.
Monster hop aroma, and I am not sure which is more over powering the spiciness or the hoppiness. Juicy, piney and full of hop oils, this is rich and full of mouthfilling flavor of grapefruit. Turning to a long bitter finish that is extremely drinkable. robertburns (15) - westminster, Colorado, USA - FEB 10, 2006
Huge coriander nose! Still alot of spice in the taste, but toned down enough for a very different, but drinkable pint. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - OCT 8, 2005
Tap at Hood River Hops Fest. Orange/amber color with light haze. Yellowish tan head with good lacing. Aroma is of fresh hop and nothing else. Smells like a packet of hops is freshly opened, very piney and citric. Medium bodied. Damn drying hop presence. Bitter citrus. A hop head delight. BeerLimey (2154) - California, USA - AUG 19, 2005
Clear reddish appearance. Rich fruity aroma with hoppy grapefruit citrus. Mildly malty palate with strong citrus and grapefruit.

On tap at Henry’s Tavern in Portland. Clear ruby red with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and some hops, not as as much hoppiness as you would expect. Flavor a huge pine/resin presence along with notes of grapefruit/citrus, caramel and toffee. Sweet and VERY bitter hop finish. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy on the palate with moderate carbonation. Good stuff. DewBrewer (295) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUN 24, 2005
On draught at the WM. Copper/amber color. Bitter aroma with a bit of pine. It is pretty hoppy, maybe centennial. Good beer. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - APR 3, 2005
Pours an orange/amber with a nice white head. Tons of citrus hops throughout with a touch of hop spiciness in the finish. This tastes more like a big IPA, with a big ol hop bitter grapefruit kick in the finish. 3fourths (9349) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 14, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2015 Sampled @ brewery, July 2004. Dark orange with lots of lacing. Roasted orange peel, some sweet nuts, spiced coconut and nutmeg... hoppy orange nose, very nice. A winner. HumuloneRed (751) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 8, 2004
Copper color with good head and lacing. Earthy resinous hop bite. Dry chaulk finish.
