2012 vintage, 4 oz draft pour at the Seattle IBF. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin patchy head. Sweet dark fruit, plum and spice aroma. Flavor has some spicy vanilla, plum, cinnamon, and maybe a little rye. Dry finish. What an incredible barleywine. Big beer. 4 oz was plenty to get the idea here. On tap at Roscoes 3-20-13. 2010 vintage.
A: Reddish brown with a placid ring of head. Surprisingly lacks legs. Not particularly appealing.
N: Bready and biscuity. There’s a noticeable salted caramel effect, some leather, and a good amount of tobacco up and above the sweetness.
T: Very bready and sweet. Hints of over-ripe pineapple, some caramel and toffee.Hoppiness lends a welcome undercurrent. There’s lots of brown sugar, though some medicinal elements detract. Sweet, not cloying.
M: Sticky and heavy. It’s really what you want out of a beer of this style.

Draft @ the brewery in Stevenson: Auburn, pellucid, nice head and creamy lacing. Nose of strong alcohol and sweet caramel. Boozy and sweet with a very bitter aftertaste. Unbalanced and hot, but this is setup for some amazing potential with oak aging, maybe 5 years?

really dank aroma and very hoppy.... citrus, herbal, spicy, almost burnt caramel, malt and honey.

Draft at Uber. Pours a cloudy and very bright medium orange with a dense but rather thin and short-lived dun-colored head. Big fragrant oranges and orange peel nose, really gets you set up from the start for a hop monster. Dense, creamy body, but not sticky, really. Plenty of carb but not at all fizzy. The mid-palate is just an eruption of nice tangy malt sweetness, lots of oranges, caramel, sugared dates, very much a Christmas morning beer. The hop bomb thing never really comes through as finishing bitterness, though--it’s pretty much all malty sweetness with some acidic citrus over the top, and then no oily resin at the end. thanks to buckeyeboy! Reddish tinged, brown pour. Caramel, spicy hops, citrus, toffee, brown sugar nose. Flavor is sweet a bit boozey and hoppy. Damn good beer.
