10th October 2008. GABF. 2007 vinatge. Dry palate - not in a good way as it’s a saccharine sort of dryness. Sweet malt up to the mid when bitterish hop finish. Would have been better without that icky dryness. glkaiser (1214) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 2, 2010
Strong caramel malts are complimented by earthy hops. Some muted sherry and cardboard flavors that aren’t quite out of place, but a bit are a bit too forward. Overall, enjoyable and another fine brew from one of the best breweries in the state. MI2CA (1340) - Noblesville, Indiana, USA - SEP 15, 2009
4oz sample at brewery - Aroma has tons of caramel and hops. Flavor is very hop forward, resinous pine with a big caramel malt finish. Palate is creamy and smooth which hides the 12.3% very well. Super good and best beer of the day. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - APR 6, 2009
On tap at Walking Man. 09 vintage. color was a rich amber. Aroma was fruity with caramel and flowers. Flavor was a bit more earthy. Fruity and caramel, with earthy/woody hops. Solid, but a bit too much hops for my liking in a barleywine. jsh12bama (761) - Alabama, USA - MAR 8, 2009
Growler split with jimbowood. Pours amber with thin white head. Aroma of piney hops. Taste is green with hops. Very fresh. Way too easy drinking at 12%. Creamy mouthfeel.

[Vintage 2008] Tap @ Barleywine and Big Beer Fest... Poured a hazy amber/red with a tiny white head. Aroma was bread-like with a tart yeast character finish. Stood out quite nicely from other barleywines from the festival. A lot of licorice flavors and not bitter at all for a 12% brew; insanely drinkable. Fruity -- jello like -- sweet notes which meshed with the earthy grains in the finish. jimbowood (1036) - Freeport, Georgia, USA - FEB 27, 2009
Tasted off the secondary @ the pub. This was one really nice and really hoppy bw. Very dangerous and very good. bu11zeye (13215) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JAN 13, 2009
(Draught, 2007 vintage) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, cherry, toffee, apricot, and orange. Flavor of caramel, cherry skins, candi sugar, and mild hops (floral, grass) with a dry finish. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - SEP 30, 2008
Hard Liver 08. Dark orange brew with nice lacing and lasting head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, citrus, and some buttery malts. Initial sweet grainy malts, caramel, toffee, candi sugar, vanilla, and a little plasticy to me too. Hops come through as earthy and floral. Creamy smooth body with a ton of booze. carruthm (1400) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 4, 2008
had at hardliver festival in fremont.
head had good retention with some solid lacing. very good beer.
