On tap at Walldorff. I love this beer. Lots of hop aroma, plenty of roasted malt, nice dark appearance, and an alcohol kick that screams "I am more than just a mug of fizzy water". This, to me, is a way above average Black IPA - and it pairs up nicely with their Jack’s Inferno pizza. BrownALEx (459) - Portland, Michigan, USA - DEC 23, 2013
Roasty and bitter, this is a top notch beer. Perfectly blends a dark beer and a bitter beer. Very, very good. Must try. Hats off to the brewer. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - JUN 6, 2010
On tap at Walldorff, Hastings. Deep translucent red body, medium creamy tan head with good lacing. Rich, spicy hops nose, with citrus, pine, and toast, reminiscent of Founder’s Black Rye. Creamy body with a dense flavor profile, dominated by intense spicy, fruity, resinous citrus and pine hops, with some dark fruit and vinous characters evident near the end of the sip. Rindy, bitter finish. A rich, complex beer, the first true "destination beer" at Walldorff, and a great complement to their world-class baked beans... 22oz bottle, handwritten "Cobain’s Ale" on a Walldorff Brewpub label. Big thanks to hoppymeal for this one.
Pours really close to black when sitting in the glass but shows through deep mahogany in the light. There is a thick creamy beige head that sticks to the sides of the glass and leaves great lacing.
The aroma is a mix of roasted chocolate malts and juicy citrus hops. Definitely cocoa powder and oranges and hints of grassy floral hops as well.
The taste has an initial kick of citrus hops, a slightly bitter grapfruit and orange flavor. There are some heavily roasted chocolate malts forming the backbone which gives way to a bitter, dry finish of cocoa and hops.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation and has a very creamy feel overall.
The dark IPAs are all the rage these days and this is one of the best ones I’ve tasted. It’s got tons of flavors that come together well into a very drinkable mixture. Thanks Derek! Tmoney99 (14457) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 10, 2010
Draft. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that was lasted with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted malt and earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy smooth bittersweet toasted flavor with a heavy bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout beer and very complex as a draft.

22oz Bottle. Big hoppy nose, with nice mint, lime zest, and dank herbs, all backed with a pleasant dark powdery cocoa sensation. Pour a vibrant brown-black, with a good finger in super-lacey burnt-bamboo-colored head. Flavors are rich and snappy. Bright piney and spicy hops, then some zesty floral sensation, a bit of soap and a finish in brown malts. Seems light on the darker shade of the style, but I really like the hop flavor, the alcohol presence and the added malt signature. Palate is balanced and crisp. Thanks so much Sean! This is great. thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 6, 2010
(22oz bomber via trade with deyholla) clear very dark brown, creamy dark tan head. Nose of chocolate malt, cream, celery, citrus oils and candied ginger. Taste of sweet chocolate, very nice rye component, fudgey, great oily bittersweet finish. Extremely well balanced all the way around. Super easy to drink as well. sethmoko (16) - Illinois, USA - APR 19, 2012
Rich and dark color. Aroma of roasted malt with significant hops. Mouthfeel is not too thick and the taste does not disappoint. At 100 IBU and 8.5% this is a big beer worth your time

Double dark ipa. Pours Black with small head. Aroma of huge tropical hops, chocolate malt. Flavor is very similar. Mild malty beginning which leads to a crisp floral finish. Nice and creamy. Dense. Nice. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUL 28, 2010
(22oz bottle, courtesy of Chad) Pours a deep mahogany (near black) body with a medium cream head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, grass, and toasted rye bread. Flavor of chocolate, roasted malt, grass, light coffee, rye, and citrus with a dry, bitter finish. Nicely balanced.
