Excellent Vienna style lager. Malty caramel and juicy hop notes. Nice clean finish. microbeerhop (3) - AUSTRALIA - NOV 26, 2007 does not count
I tried the beers on tap at the Wanaka Beerworks micro-brewery. I did the tour and tasted the 3 styles of beer on tap. Cardrona gold was flavoured with sweet caramel maltiness, pleasant medium hop flavour, and smooth clean finish. DuffMan (10425) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 29, 2005
The beer highlight of my recent New Zealand trip was finding the microbrews from Wanaka Beerworks. All are terrific. This one pours a clear dark amber. Hoppy nose with an excellent fruity-hopped palate on a solid malt base. Excellent. bozoNZ (778) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 28, 2007
330ml bottle from New World. Darker than I expected for a ’Gold’ name. Nice firm but thin creamy head all thru the glass. Faint fruity aroma. Wonderful construction. Complex fullness in the malts, creamy texture to give it some body and some nice hop finishing. I like this. Was close to it’s b/b date. Perhaps this is better matured than fresh? Would be interesting to sample a fresh comparison. m2swim (15) - Idaho, USA - JUN 10, 2009
From a bottle purchased at the brewery. Pours a dark golden color with a nice hoppy aroma initially. Caramel and malt body with a crisp hop finish. Would purchase and drink again.

Bottle at Minibar, Queenstown. Pours copper with small white head. Aroma of caramel and fruit. The flavour is caramel malt and fruit. Moderate hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Smooth and bitter finish. beer4eternity (226) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 17, 2011
330ml bottle. Clear coppery amber hue, creamy white ring head with some lacing. Beautiful caramel fudge, malty, biscuity , fruity aromas. Tastes very nice too; malty sweet with a long duration. Creamy texture, light carbonation, medium body, finishes very dry. A very nice brew. chinchill (4993) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 14, 2014
(“Vienna style all malt lager”) 5.0% 330 ml brown bottle purchased in Wanaka and consumed a week later in Dunedin NZ. BB date of ? 2014.
Pours clear deep amber with a small off-white head. Some lacing.
Aroma: Sweet malts with plenty of caramel and a bit of vanilla. A hint of floral hops.
Flavor: very tasty, malt forward beer. More flavor and especially malts than a typical Vienna lager. Enough hops to cut the sweetness and leave a very mildly bitter aftertaste.
Feel: medium-light body; semi-dry finish; smooth; good, medium carbonation.
O: a tasty malt bomb that I recommend with the caveat that it is not true to proclaimed style.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, deep golden with a white, lacing head. Aroma of caramel and overripe fruit. Medium body with dry caramel accents, perhaps a little fruit and a dry, lightly bitter finish with a whiff of sulphur. Very clean and straight. Funny fact: this comes in a fresh Danish beer bottle, complete with the word "ØL" in the glass bottom. Weird. 290108
