A very strong winter ale. Aroma of cinnamon and some liquorice. A rather murky colour. An after rate of chocolate. Quite sickly but I for half.

Our last drink after three happy drinking days at The National Winter Ales Festival 2013. Half-pint, cask served from bar 3. Dotted sports to the glassware, Coal black body with a deep rustic shade. Aromatic with plums, raisin and dark malts. The taste profile brings spiced mid-sweet malts and dried fruits as well as anise and caramel offset by berries. Malt bitter aftertaste. Fits the season well (Manchester, 25.01.2013).

Cask at the NWAF, Manchester, 2012. Reddish brown pour with a beige head. Nose of blackcurrant and chocolate. Quite meaty. Spicy flavours with a splash of raisin and chocolate. Dry, spicy finish.

On [email protected] Fleet. This is the very first Winter Ale I had. Not bad, but I expected something better. Dark brown with a small tan head. Caramel, malty aroma. A bit spicy and dry in the end.

Cloudy dark brown beer. Light tan head. Semi dry palate. Sourish malt with a little citrus zest that dies away quickly leaving the malt which then gets a little sweeter. A hint of orange in the finish. Suppossed to have cinnamon and mixed spice - coulda fooled me!

330ml Bottle - Brown in colour with a slight haze. Fruity and spicy aroma with hints of Christmas cake, raisins, caramel and malt. Spicy, fruity and slightly tangy taste with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins and caramel. The spice is evident in the aroma and the taste, but isn’t overwhelming. The finish is fruity and spicy with a slight sweetness. Enjoyable and rather easy to drink.

1. Cask Handpump at the Baltic Fleet, Liverpool 12/12/2002 Black with a spicy cinnamon flavour and a slightly dry finish. 2. Cask Stillage at the Church Hall, Frodsham 10/01/2004 Dark coloured strong in alcohol and fruity with a slightly spicy flavoured warming malt finish.

Ungstrup (38159) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - DEC 20, 2009
Cask @ National Winter Ales Festival 2009. An opaque brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has strong notes of spices - especially cardemomme, but also lighter notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of spices - again primarily cardemomme and medium notes of caramel and malt. A bit too spicy for my liking.
