In the summer and fall, I can always find a safe and welcoming home for a good dunkel. Warsteinerís runs, I think, middle of the road. Nice nutty flavors around the flavor profile ... but there was a distracting metallic flavor too. Hopped a little more than I expected but that really wasnít unpleasant. Very grainy with hints of caramel. Overall, this is decent dunkel.

Itís light bodied for a rich dark beer, full in flavor with a sweet and smooth taste. Itís a beer to simply enjoy, where you donít have to wrestle with the flavors to appreciate it. Iíve have had this beer a few times, and it seems to vary greatly by place. I donít know if itís distributer differences or what, but when itís good, itís really good!

Here the trademark Warsteiner graininess works to better effect. While the body is a bit thin, the toasted flavors come out rather nicely to make for an enjoyable (though perhaps not thrilling) dunkel.

Nicely roasted malt body, which is light and smooth. I found the finish to have a noticeably sweat undertone similar to some of the lighter Maibocks. Deeply refreshing and highly recommended. This is a great beer for the buck.

Quite malty with a unusually dry finish compared with the becks dunkel version which happens to be quite sweet. Less hoppy than the becks dark, yet more robust with a more pronounced roasted malt flavor... nice, light body as well. Of all the grocery store dark brands, this is highly recommended.
