Well it didnt taste like a German Pils to me. Not enough hops. A decent beer but marketed and produced for the masses. Which makes it better than an American macro, but that is it.

About as good as you can get for a pilsner. has some nice bitterness. I think the Dunkel is better.

Supposedly one of the top selling beers in Germany, which doesnt say much about the beer itself except it seems just another part of a clever marketing campaign. Beer writer James D. Robertson wrote twenty years ago of a very fine Pilsener with complex malt and hop aroma, and flavour, so I was expecting a little more than was served up. Maybe big business has reeled its ugly head! Clear pale gold with very fine, light carbonation failing to keep its initially fluffy white head on for longer than the first sip. Overly generous unfermented and gritty malt, and haystack chaff aroma (a little like my breakfast cereal). The aroma wasnt unclean, but more reminiscent of barnyard musty. Similar to the aroma in the mouth which gave the feeling of a non-alcoholic Near beer with its gluggy, gritty and lightly toasted malt flavour and bready yeast feel. It had a little balance in the back with some grassy and slightly sour hops. Finish is malty and sour with a long lingering effect like spent grains. It was generous in flavour, which I suppose was it failing point as it came across as clumsy and didnt get any better towards the end of the glass. Disappointing!!! (33cL bottle, BBE 08/05)

Just kind of blah. The best I can muster to say about this beer is that I poured with a nice head. I was also very dry, crisp and refreshing. It just doesnt taste very good.

Not too impressed. Had this one just after having an Icehouse and still wasnt impressed. Figure that may be a decent sign of mediocrity.

Here it goes,. At first pour, the head seemed good, but in a few seconds ( the time to grab the cheese in the kitchen) it disappeared. Good malt taste and arome. Color is a good brigth gold.

On tap at Angel Inn,notl. Piss/apple yellow, medium white head that disapated in a few minutes. Carbonated, watery. Typical pils/lager with apple, lemon and wheat tones. Had 2 as it grew on me but shouldve just had a Guiness. Wont drink it again.

I poured this from a bottle and the head seems decent and the beer has some nice bubbling going on but the taste seems pretty simple-it has your usual German Pilsener elements with some copperiness, wheatiness and a bit of a bite in the aftertaste thrown in there. That dry bite is all I really enjoy here. The rest of it is uneventful. I think what makes me not to want another one is that lemony stale smell/flavor that I detect.

TAP at Matthews; Ocean Beach. A disappointment for an overpriced, supposedly "premium" selection. Apple juice yellow with a small white head and an indestinct flavor that reminded me of the Reingold I recently tried. Frankly, the Rheingold was more enjoyable and drinkable. Given a choice now, Id take the two Rheingolds you could get for the price of one of these. BUY AGAIN: No
