Beer just tastes better to me when I'm at the beach. I guess it's psychological. This is one of my faves when I'm down in Nags Head NC. Nice malt flavor but with a good balance. Not super deep, but still has a bit of complexity. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 4, 2002
Pours a deep amber with a nice beige head. Aroma is strongly caramel. Flavor is watery caramel, with some German-style bitterness carrying through to the swallow. Decidedly bland. Norton (333) - Southside, Richmond, Virginia, USA - OCT 3, 2002
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2004 RERATE: <b?Draft. Had this off tap at a restaurant in Outer Banks. Decent caramel flavor reminds me a little of Red Stripe. Mild carbonation, minimal head. Smooth drinker. Deep orange hue. ARMed (625) - Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 17, 2002
Nothing distinguishing about this brew. Typical for all microbrew lagers. Slightly bitter and tangy. Not very complex, but pretty drinkable. An average brew at best. HighlanderOne (1330) - York, SC via NJ, South Carolina, USA - SEP 3, 2002
I wasn’t too crazy about this one. Has a somewhat off flavor, as if too old.

Looks great with a good white head and a deep amber body, smells great with a creamy malty aroma and then taste like an old tin can. There is definatly something lacking in the taste of this beer which is a big let down because I liked their black raddish brew alot. Panzuriel (2256) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - AUG 21, 2002
Slightly vinegar smell. Sweet and creamy. Slightly cloudly amber orange liquid fizzy head. First taste very carmelly, with an acrid almost vinegary fruit hint. Whole experience similar to drinking syrup flavored with raspberry candies. obxdude10 (2324) - Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 12, 2002
Copper color, thin lacy head that lasted throughout the pint, very crisp mouthfeel, faint hoppy taste, very malty aroma, well balanced, excellent Fest

A very fine OBX beach beer. 7/2002 - had it on tap at Corrolla and Manteo, in the bottle, and from a freshly filled mini-keg (in other words, we really overdid it with the fest last week!). Thin amber body. 1/4 inch head. Thin, sweet and very lightly roasted taste. faintly bitter at the end. Just a nice light chuggable beer. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUN 23, 2002
What is a Festbier anyway? It is certainly not an Octoberfest nor a Marzen or Vienna Style, It’s just a Lager, nothing really special about it. Nice malty aroma with a slight bitter dryness too it. Not as smooth as some other good lagers.
