Our golden-yellow wheat beer, with its fine-pored white foam, smells of cloves and impresses consumers with its refreshing banana flavour. It is full bodied and with a smooth yeast taste. To be enjoyed at any time (always a pleasure / enjoyment), goes excellently with fish and seafood, with spicy cheese and especially with the traditional Bavarian veal sausage. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Bottled. Consumed while watching Beerfest, thought it was appropriate. Pours a brilliant shade of orange, cloudy and full of life from the cabonation. Huge, over two finger thick white head sits atop the beer, and refuses to leave. Yeast, banana, oranges, sweet malts and hops combine to form a brilliant bouquet of aromas. Flavor is a bit of a letdown compared to the aroma, its a bit watery. This bottle has been in my fridge for going on 6 months now, and who knows how long it was on the shelf before that, so I wont knock it too much until I confirm with a fresh sample. Creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied. Finish is sweet malts, yeast and fruit, medium length and satisfying. Nice, but I prefer the Franziskaner version by a good bit.

16.9 oz bottle. Foggy olive orange with a white meringue head. Wet lace. Dough, candied lemon peel and green banana. Tangy carb with a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. Almost like they added some banana puree. Taste echoes the nose with cloves. Ends a little sour and wheaty.

An enjoyable wheat. Poured cloudy dark yellow color with HUGE almost out of control head. Aroma is clovey. Flavor is very rich but not overdone clovey/banana flavor with a nice crisp bitter finish. This is up there amongst the many hefes Ive tried.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2007 First time I had had this it was out of the tap at little pub right smack dab on the Rhine River in Germany - and I thought I was drinking liquid gold. Maybe the great memories have given me a bias, but this as become my very favorite Hefeweizen, and one of my favorite beers, period. Everything about it, the color, the naturally sweet aroma and flavor, is perfect. Adding a lemon wedge makes it even better. Weihenstepher is the worlds oldest brewer, so theyve had plenty of time to get it right. And they have.

Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle into a weizen glass. Color is a golden yellow with notable cloudiness and visible yeast in the bottom of the bottle (poured into the glass, of course). Head is very big, slightly sticky, and white. No lemon added. Smells of ground wheat with whisps of banana odor and a very slight ester. Taste starts out with a strong wheat and fades to a more malty flavor, with evident elements of citrus, banana, and cloves. Mouthfeel is medium weight with lots of carbonation as expected in this type, and a nice smoothness at the end. The initial "hit" of the carbonation and wheat is very refreshing, and the barley notes ensure a finish thats not too harsh. Many say that this (and other hefeweizens) is a beer for the hot summer afternoon. I could drink it all day, all year round. Absolutely delicious; light but flavorful. By far the best of its breed.
