UPDATED: JUN 2, 2011 It’s been a long time since I’ve geeked out on Hefes, but on this hot day in Carolina I thought I’d take a splash. And this one was just the ticket, with a big cloudy body, a lightly spiced palate, and a frothy mouthfeel. Really good and quaffable, on a par with Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr. UPDATED: AUG 11, 2016 Re-rate 8/16: Bottle at Meshek Barzilay in Tel Aviv. A very nice classic Weizen, but I like it a little less than I used to. 7/4/7/3/15=3.6 Mane (13) - GERMANY - MAY 29, 2007
Re-rate 3/31/08: Draught. Cloudy yellow with a big lasting white head. Fruity aroma of wheat, banana and some clove notes. Sweetish and lightly tart flavor with wheat, banana and a bit of spiciness. Light to medium-bodied with crisp mouthfeel. Great. 7/5/7/4/15=3.8
Draught. Cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is yeast, wheat, fruits (mostly banana, duh), and a bit of spices. Wheat, yeast and banana in the flavor. Pleasant medium body. A great weissbier! 7/4/8/4/15=3.8
sweet - slight and very pleasent taste on the palate - a bit watery - It is very palatable to drink emacgee (4708) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - MAY 28, 2007
Poured a pretty pale hazy amber/golden. The head is thick, creamy, offwhite. The aroma is nice, banana, citrus, spice, sour. The flavor is sour, spicey, banana, and more citrus. The palate is smooth and crisp while remaining full. This is a delicious german hefeweizen and I am beginning to adore the style. malrubius (3044) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - MAY 28, 2007
500ml bottle in Weinhestephan glass. Pours cloudy pale yellow orange with lasting white head and nice lacing. Aroma of banana clove bubblegum. Perhaps the best hefe aroma. Extremely refreshing flavors of sweet orange fruitiness. Medium light body. Perhaps a hint too much carbonation, but refreshing mouthfeel nonetheless. Delicious, I’ll have twelve.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2010 Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Hazy golden with large but short fluffy white head. Standard weizen aromas of banana, clove and yeast. Medium bodied and smooth, still with a vivid carbonation. Very nicely balanced with a noticeable bitterness and a refreshing acidity. Very enjoyable. glennmastrange (2931) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAY 25, 2007
Bottle. Aroma is dominated by the yeast’s soapy/musty smell. The malt has a grain aroma and the hops of lemon. Pear, allspice and clove are also noticable. The head is fizzy, white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is a clear yellow/amber. Flavor starts out acidic and finishes lightly bitter and salty. Palate is light and is between dry and watery, but is very crisp and semi-refreshing. Carbonation is fizzy and finishes slightly astringent. A good hefeweiss. Bottle. The aroma of this beer was citrus, pear, and apple. There was a hint of bubblegum flavor. Dry, light/med body, hazy yellow. Good carbonation, but no lacing in the glass. Classic hef. mvcramer (243) - Lexington, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 22, 2007
Hints of lemon notes - I didn’t get the banana aroma that I normally get with a good hefe. Aroma was more like a witbier when I first poured it, but the lemon/citrus aroma became more pronounced as it warmed a bit. Beautiful golden hazy appearance. Insanely frothy head. Citrus flavor was refreshing. Great summer beer. Very dry on the palate. bhensonb (15843) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 22, 2007
Aroma of yeast, supported by a bit of lemon and banana. Hazy orange gold color with many, many tiny bubbles. Ferocious white head that does not seem to plan on leaving. Starts with a mouthful of citrus, spice and pleasant fizz. Passes to a dry, barely bitter finish. This one is all in the middle, and it’s great.
