A good beer takes its time. The long storage makes our yellow bright lager, “Original”, a flavourful beer enjoyed with fine pored, white foam. With a mild hoppy note and its pleasant fresh spicy taste, it goes very well with salads, poultry, stews or with a hearty snack. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

Wow! Poured from a 11.2 FL.OZ bottle, I smell a light malt and fresh clean aroma. I taste malt, yeast and nice hop finish. Great beer, very balance.

@ In de Buurt - Zwolle. Nice beer from the famous Weihenstephaner brewery. Clear, fresh taste with some malts. Just okay and fine.

Pale gold with a thin white head. Light malt aroma with a faint grassiness. Dry malty flavor with moderate bitterness and peppery finish. Light bodied almost watery. Very drinkable though seems a bit light for style.

On tap at Weihenstephaner, Hackescher Markt, Berlin. Pours clear light yellow with a minimal white head. The aroma contains malt, grain, hops and yeast. It tastes light bitter to light malty sweet, with a grainy finish. Softly fizzy carbonation, slick texture, very quenching. Good.

Ar: Pronounced fine noble hop aroma--peppery, dried leaves; crackery maltiness, with a cucumber hint; slight sulfur. Ap: Straw yellow with the slightest hint of amber-gold; crystal clear; medium white head, sticky and foamy, leaving a trail of lace and a cap of froth. T: Cracker maltiness up front; clean fermentation profile; mild sweetness and deeper toast notes come in next; grassy with some minerality; finish is chalky and grassy, slight cucumber; bitterness is medium-low, but firm. P: Medium-light body with high carbonation; finish is dry. O: Very nice lager; well-presented notes of malt, hops, and water throughout, with a nice, clean lager character; spectacular presentation of noble hop aromas and flavors; hints of toast lend a subtle depth to the malt character. .

500 ml bottle. Brassy gold color topped by a large dense rocky white head. Pleasant malty aroma. Sharp tasty light malt flavor is balanced nicely by a crisp dry grassy hop finish. Clean and straight forward. Easily drinkable.

As Original Helles. Pours a clean golden color with medium white head. Aroma is crisp and grassy, with cereal and sweet malty notes and also a spicy note to it. Taste follows the nose, grass, citrus, bread, cereals and herbal finish.

11.2oz bottle. Pours a clear pale gold with a medium white head. Aroma is sweet with grass, herbs, and some spice. Taste is sweet grain, grass, and a little bit of spice. Light body; bordering on light-medium. Average carbonation. Crisp mouthfeel.

Draft: Clear sunflower gold. Wispy white foam. Dirty aroma of unspent malt, grape candy, beeswax, lemon curd. Light notes of concrete, popcorn and flowers. Tight carbonation. Dry and mineral-charged on initial sip, with equally stiff maltiness lending excellent structure to the admirably lean body. Quickly spoiling things is a strong note of chalky grape candy, and some huskiness is detected as well. Gravelly yeast and a touch of DMS (cauliflower) plagues the cleanness late. What the malt lacks in depth makes up for it with its vivid definition and assertive snappiness. A smattering of sweet Hallertau-derived nectar and honeysuckle lend some succulence in the dry and balanced, yet DMS- and vanilla-taffy-tainted, closing. Note of creamed corn lingers. Something is very amiss with this and I’m curious how the brewers are satisfied with the end result. For one, there’s a raw grain character that mars the aroma, and the fermentation has some issues with the grape, gravel and DMS notes. Lengthy lagering time or not, this needs some serious fine-tuning in order to be enjoyable like I remember it being some years ago.
