When you get to that time of day when that cup of hot coffee is no longer the answer, and you need something with a little extra kick, plait your bear, stick on your eye patch and grab a Black Perle. This milk stout is chock full of roasty malts, milk sugar, hopped with hand full’s of perle plundered from the unsuspecting and aged on a chest full of Zamorana coffee beans.

From tap at Speciaalbier Café De Markies, Leeuwarden. Aroma is creamy lactose with lots of coffee, roast, cocoa, grindy coffee. Flavour is nicely bitter with a light yet creamy body. Quite a tasty coffee milk stout, lovely coffee aroma.

Bottle, [email protected], Middelfart. Pours deep opaque black with very large, frothy, fizzy beige head. Aroma has sweet malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel. High carbonation, fine dry and light creamy mouthfeel, excessive carbonation. Flavour has fine malts, caramel, chocolate, coffee. Good milky notes, firm bitterness.

0.5L bottle. Huge carbonation, wasn’t a gusher but CO2 dropped out of solution when serving filling the glass with 90% foam. Gigantic tan head. Color is almost black, opaque. Nose is intense (CO2 driving aroma aggressively) roasted malts mainly, lightly roasted coffee dominate the aroma, some kind of tart notes there (infection?). Left it to sit for 4-5 hours to reduce the CO2 cause taste was very harsh. Taste follows nose. Balanced, light sweet, nice roastiness, coffee, caramel notes, no hops whatsoever. Not very complex... No off flavor, so could have been bottled before reaching FG. Nice short aftertaste, mainly roasty things going on. Light body, very low (after 5 hours) carbonation. I expected more.

Be aware! This beer is much more quicker & dangerous than the pirate ship. It will attack you right away you open the bottle. Fortunately only 3,8% ABV. Totally black with a very, very large brown head. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate & milk chocolate. Medium sweet, light bitter and a medium dry finish. Light body, creamy texture & lively carbonation.

It says on the label "bottle conditioned, pour slowly". Try as I may as the dark treacle coloured fizzing liquid glugged sluggishly into the glass a three finger dark beige head loomed up and over the rim. The volatile elements of coffee, milk chocolate and bitter liquorice force a flare in the nostrils and a deep intake of the rich aromas. Languidly the lingering head settles lacing the sides of glass. Softly the lush liquid rolls over the tongue and around the taste buds bringing more coffee, caramel, chocolate and liquorice. Like a Fry's chocolate cream bar simultaneously bitter and sweet it slips down coating the epiglottis. What comfort and charm in this most delectable feast of a drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at The Lazy Bulldog, Athens. Muddy brown. Cold stale coffee and chocolate in the nose, bitter with sweet chocolaty notes and a little roastiness in the mouth. Smooth, medium body, bitter finish with coffee notes. Nice.
