The Single Hop Series allows us to showcase our creative side within the constraint of using a single hop.

So Pale and one "crystal" malt, a single hop and English Ale yeast. THis is our homage to the great British pint, or Boring Brown Beer as we like to put it. I mean to say, how plain is Belgian Special B crystal malt, or the American C-hop Chinook? How boring can a 7%+ beer with 100+ IBU really be? Interested? Grab one to find out. Batch 0001

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como; batch 0001, bottled Feb 2013, bb Feb 2016
Gusher. Pours a dark brown color with large frothy head, not persistent. The aroma mixes dark caramel with English yeast; some soil and dust. Good body strength; it has too much carbonation; the flavor turns too much to the dark side; dark caramel and some more heavily roasted malt; the bitterness deriving from the dark malts accentuates too much the one from the hops resulting excessive; dusty and roasty final.
I don’t see why using such a base beer for a single hop series. Elephant in a china shop.

Backlog rating. Tap at CBC Clapham, Craft 100. It pours a maroon color with a medium tan foam. Aroma is earthy, yeasty, with notes of baked apples and cocoa butter. Light piney hops. Taste is again yeasty, bready and earthy, with notes of chestnuts, peaches and spices. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, decent beer but a bit unexciting.

McNeillR (2329) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 19, 2013
Firmly dark brown, decent and lasting sandy head. Dunderring coppery bitter with an odd estery sweetness on the nose. Neatly bitter, lightly oily and crisp realistic malt. Sweeping sweet dark fruit yeastiness. Creamy toward finish but overly rich, spittle of hop and unreasonably sweet finish.

BenH (3434) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 8, 2013
Bottle. Brown with tan head. Spicy yeasty aroma, belgiany, grassy. Similar taste, peppery spicy yeast bomb with caramel, toffee, biscuit. Quite bitter. Not my bag

Juha (73) - Surrey, ENGLAND - OCT 22, 2013
Bright reddish colour. Aroma is alcohol and some spice. Taste is harsh and thinnish alcohol, no aroma, no grapefruit no pine. Just alcohol and harshness. Huge disappointment, huge carbonation. Wondering what is the point of this beer.
