Liquid does not break the Fast - was a rule of fasting at the times of the Benedictine monks in Weissenohe. For this, now we owe the Mirror Carp as Fasting food and the strong Doppelbock for liquid intake during this barren time. In this tradition, we have brewed for you our strong Bonator the dark Doppelbock, physically and spiritually strengthening during the "staaden" time. A dark Doppelbock, spicy and strong as the tradition requires. Suitable for: goulash, pork shoulder, roasted meat, hearty snacks and strong game dishes

Dark hazy brown pour, with a medium beige head. Thick, sticky bready malts. Lots of cereals, sweet plums, and apples. Some minerals, and a tad metallic. Soft mouth feel, soft carb. Very bready, grainy finish, with next to no bitterness and quite a bit of sweetness.

hackobock (4029) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 15, 2014

Erzengel (8768) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JUL 8, 2014

GoufCustom (2005) - HONG KONG - JUN 14, 2014

500 ml bottle bought at foodGARDEN in D2 Place, Lai Chi Kok.

Looks: Clear dark copper amber colour; Three-quarter finger head and light beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Small sticky lacing with active carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant sweet full malt, with strong caramel, strong toffee, brown sugar, light coffee, light musty, alcohol and faint grass.

Taste: Strong and savory sweet malt, with strong caramel, toffee, strong molasses, hint of alcohol, sweet bread, yeast, faint lemon and shades of bitter grassy hops.

Body: Full body. Dry, rich and slightly creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Very rich dark malt in thick body. Maltyness is harmonious with very expressive caramel and light toffee characters. Sweetness is strong but natural and tasty, and blended well with the smooth but hidden 8.2% booze. Loads of sweet bread, what a beauty!

Hoppiness: Faint grass nose, thin lemon and faint grassy taste. Bitterness is faint in background, match well with malty sweetness for a flickering low finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Very easy rich to mouth.

Comments: This is a bona fide Doppelbock, one of those authentic and historic German monastic brews that give the style such fine reputation - rich maltyness, strong tasty sweetness (how often do you say that to a beer?), nice caramel and toffee aroma and taste with a dash of coffee for good measure, well-hidden and tasty booze. Every aspect is in the right balance, this is what a nice Doppelbock is about. Highly Recommended!

[Bottle] Darker reddish/orange pour with a thin amount of foam on top. Sweet toffee and fruitcake apparent in the nose. Caramel, toffee, light fruits, raisin and bready notes in the flavor. Sticky palate. Mild warmth from the alcohol comes out as the beer warms. Tasting notes from 2/2012.

MichaelAwesome (6519) - Wanne-Eickel, GERMANY - MAY 21, 2014
