Liquid does not break the Fast - was a rule of fasting at the times of the Benedictine monks in Weissenohe. For this, now we owe the Mirror Carp as Fasting food and the strong Doppelbock for liquid intake during this barren time. In this tradition, we have brewed for you our strong Bonator the dark Doppelbock, physically and spiritually strengthening during the "staaden" time. A dark Doppelbock, spicy and strong as the tradition requires. Suitable for: goulash, pork shoulder, roasted meat, hearty snacks and strong game dishes

Bottle. Fairly clear coppery red pour with a creamy beige head that quickly shrinks to surface cover. Sweet malty nose has notes of toffee, dates, chocolate, nuts and raisins. Flavour is pretty similar, a little more roasty and the fruitiness takes a backseat to the nutty malt overtones. Alcohol is well hidden but the sweetness becomes a bit overbearing. Medium to light bodied with a slightly watery mouthfeel, lively carbonation and a lingering roasty, sweet finish. Rather simplistic overall and somewhat unbalanced in favour of malty sweetness. Drinkable but not the best example of this style.

Bottle from Arden WInes, week 19 2016. Pale chestnut with a beige cap quickly shrinking to a halo. Aroma of cherry Tunes and blossom; rust, raspberry boiled sweets, muscovado and sesame. Malt loaf dunked in cough medicine, flowering shrub, perfumed cherry fruit, oily sesame taste. Freshness and balance. Baltic saline splashes. Praline and liqueur. Substantial with a delicate touch. A silken gloved cruiserweight. A quality, delicately perfumed punch in the face.

Clear, light copper colored. Has a rich rye-like aroma, dark breads, tiniest amount of fruitiness, plums, but a dry roasted aroma cuts through everything. Has a rich, malty flavor with chocolate notes, a bit fruity, more roasted than the typical sweet malty doppelbock. Has a good balance with the herbal hops. Lacks the malty depth of the best of the style and a bit drier too. Overall though, this is a damn good beer! Though I do love the style.
