Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black. Nice head. Starts mild, fine malty, not too roasty. Hints of caramel. Well balanced finish, quite drinkable. Really good dunkles. Dedollewaitor (16315) - Odense, DENMARK - JUL 13, 2011

Bottle 50cl, a dark amber beer with good head but goes down too quickly. Nose is on brown bread and caramel. Aroma is on toasted malt, caramel, vegetables, brown bread, the beer is medium sweet to low with a slightly sour and smoked hints. Finish is very dry with a grassy hops note, an unusual dunkel, quite easy to drink, not heavy and well hopy, body is a bit less complex.

Flip-top bottle labeled Monk’s Christmas. Pours chestnut brown with a 2-finger light tan head, with nice retention. Aromas are nutty malt, cocoa, caramel, and a hint of red fruit. Flavor is rich, smoky wood, cocoa, and some slightly oaky toffee notes. Medium carbonation and nearly creamy. Tasty beer; enjoyed with smoked venison sausage...Mmmm... Bottle: The aroma is loaded with heavy roasted grains along with some faint brown sugar and nuts. It pours a bright transparent copper with a one finger beige head that leaves behind a solid sheet of lacing...an impressive looking beer. The flavor starts with some nice light chocolate and caramel. Moderate roasted grains in the middle, but nowhere near as strong as the aroma would you to believe they would be. The finish has some light chocolate and roasted nuts. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
