Draft @ Trion. Clear amber with a moderate off-white head. Fruity molasses and toast aroma. Earthy roasty malt flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. jkwood04 (5472) - Connecticut, USA - JUN 23, 2013
500ml bottle in a stem glass. Pours deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of nutty and caramel malts plus a very light hop note. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not bad but not great. Brigadier (3780) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - JAN 12, 2014

A Christmasy dunkel beer was a nice addition to my sampler tray. The daily tap special at Holy Grale, this would have been worth a full pint if I would have had more time. If you are lucky enough to be in the area do not miss whatever German drafts they have at the time.
Aroma / Appearance - The body looks like a glass of warm apple cider. Malty caramel apples add a sweet nutty texture. This isn’t complex but it is very pleasing.
Flavor / Palate - The taste of fresh apple cider chased with a bit of nuttiness opens well. A dry finish works its way to the back of the throat. One weakness is that over times it does not really improve. It might have been the handling in the way to the Midwest; I would love to try some beers in this style and the other Germanic ones at the source.
Bottled. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with dusty notes. The flavor is sweet malty wtih notes of caramel, leading to a dry finish.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel, and so is the flavor, leading to a dry and lightly bitter end.
500ml Bottle - Brown/amber in colour. Malty aroma with a hint of toffee and some slightly roasted elements. Slightly sweet taste with malt and hints of toffee followed by a sweet, malty and slightly roasted finish. corby112 (2813) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 15, 2009
16.9 oz. swingtop bottle picked up on a recent holiday beer run.
Pours a deep dark ruby/mahogany color with very dark orange edges when held to a light source ans a one finger frothy off white head with decent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting ring that leaves sporadic cunks of soapy lacing behind.
Slightly earthy aroma with hints of chocolate and caramel malt, rye, light cherry and grassy hops. Subtle toffee and hazelnut presence in the nose.
Soft carbonation up front with a lightr body than I expected. Prominent spice up front that lingers over the sweet lightly roasted malt body into a bone dry finish. Hints of christmas cake, spice, caramel and rye maltiness, cinnamon, brown sugar and dark sour cherries. Also there is some toffee ands subtle nutty flavor. Pretty sweet and spicy but is somewaht blanced by the malt backbone. Easy to drink and a big plus is that it doesn’t have the medicinal syrupy fell that I hate in a lot of Xmas beers.

On tap gravity keg from the Huber Haus. Chestnut color. Medium thick ecru colored head and low carbonation. Roasted flavor up front with very little malt sweetness. Strong finishing tartness. Leaves much to be desired. durhambeer (2585) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 14, 2010
On tap at Tyler’s in Durham. Medium to dark brown with smallish head. Typical bready German malt. Just a tad bit of spice. Nothing much going on here. Boring. Beerdrinker79 (2188) - Idaho, USA - JAN 15, 2010
(Monk’s Christmas) 16.9 oz Grolsch style flip top- Pours dark amber with a pretty good head and below average lacing, aroma is not great, smells like a mass produced pale lager. The taste is better, there is definite roasted caramel malt, very easy to pour down the throat, the aroma is the weakest part of this otherwise decent brew.
