Toffee in nose and flavor - a tad sweet. Was afraid it would be one of those "nice bottle, but ,,," I get tired of mentioning "roast" falvor in stouts, guess if it's not there I should say something. Not bad, not all that impressive either.

Bottle. Dark amber with a small head. Nice toffee aroma that doesn't quite follow through in the flavor...it just dort of burns out into ordinary-tasting malts. The mouthfeel is excessively thin, especially for the strong alcohol content. Drinkable but not great.

OlJuntan64 (1265) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 12, 2003
Deep red clear with small beige head. Surprisingly light pleasant floral hops and light roast malt aroma. Body is thin but slightly cloying, kinda syrupy like a flat watery over sugared cola. I don't find the combination of flavors in this one all that attractive, bruised roast malt, disinfectant, and pine tarry. The finish is stale bitter with a hint of something medicinal like Senega or friars balsam.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2007 August 2007. Draft at Beer Bistro. Dark brown, big beige head and very nice lacing. Strange woody not quite smokey toasty malt notes to the aroma, and very light caramel notes. Odd fruitiness to the flavour, light toasty malt and moderate bitterness. Average palate. Bit wonky, and note as good as I remember previous samples being. 6/5/6/3/13 - 3.0 <P>TFOB 2003. Draft. Reddish colour, strong malty aroma, Sweet with alcohol notes. Hated this the first time I had it, my friends still recoil in fear of it, but I enjoyed this sample a fair bit. 6/3/5/3/13 - 3.0

Kåstå (1273) - Mol, BELGIUM - AUG 10, 2003
Light amber coloured beer with a small off white head. Sweet medecinal aroma. The taste is mostly molasses, medecinal and some cleaning reagent. No, not really my cup of tea.

jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 30, 2003
Brown color. Slightly wattered hops nose. Biggest impression was its mulled type of flavors. Dark maltish warmed body.

SimonPatrice (312) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 1, 2003
Mahogany body, beige head. Malty aroma, cookie dough, caramel, dark fruits. Strong malt flavor, big body, blueberries in the after taste. Nice hopping to balance it off. A big thanks to Captain Flurries for this beer.

wnp22 (698) - Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, CANADA - MAY 25, 2003
Sweet scent - raison or plum. Slightly tart smell but generally fruity. Slight caramel malty smell also. Appearance is dark brown with slight reddish hue. Slim white head. Taste starts of sweet then slightl bitter hoppy finish. Hints of fruit in the taste.

joeycapps (1468) - Waterdown, Ontario, CANADA - APR 27, 2003
Deep copper w/ finger of beige foam. Fruity nose w/ malt background. Medium-full bodied. Malt (caramel, toffee) & fruit (orange, apple) up-front. Finish is firm, dry & moderately bitter.

Strange Brew (157) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 31, 2003
Nice dark colour with a light/tan head. Malty aroma is easy to detect. Nice complex flavours come out in this medium-bodied ale. Initial sweetness is joined by a smoky maltiness and a nutty, hoppy finish. The alcohol is there but the other flavours keep it at bay. A very good complex ale.
