Dark brown body with reddish glints. Thin but lasting beige frothy head. Nice malty aroma with various notes of brown sugar, grapes, and vanilla. Taste is rich and complex. It is mainly malty and sweet, but there’s also nutty and roasty hints. It ends with a long, bitter, and warm finish. Excellent choice when coming back from work on a cold and rainy Friday. 341 ml bottle in 6-pack from The Beer Store, served cold in a tulip glass.pintbypint (3713) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 24, 2004
App.: Very deep ruby copper, small light tan head, clear.
Aroma: Generous amounts of cherry and other fruits mixed with coffee and milk chocolate malts, some earthy/funky hops.
Palate: Medium-full body and medium-soft carbonation.
Flav.: More earthy and fruity than the nose, some cardboard, the darker malts are subdued; off-dry, mild bitterness and a lightly vinous and medium roasted malt finish.
A touch old I suspect, but still a very likeable beer.
Sampled from 341ml brown bottle. Pours ruby brown with slight off white head which was short lasting. Fruity malt in the aroma. Dark chocolate giving way to a dry, yet short bitter finish. Notes of alcohol throughout. Medium mouthfeel.

Deep red; a perfect wood stain color. Frothy head. Rich flavor. Bold & full-bodied, yet controlled. Smooth, dry finish with a hint of fruity-alcohol aroma. cfrancis (3506) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 11, 2009
Dark ruby cola colour with a thin head. Aroma is gorgeous, it’s almost like sticking your nose into a good whisky or bourbon bottle. Oak, spice malt in the aroma. Taste is great, with a great spicy aftertaste. Full flavour and mouthfeel with a little bitterness. Great beer, glad I bought a 6’er. Metalchopz (3445) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - APR 10, 2012
Originally rated December 2004. This is the last brew to review from Wellington’s fine brewery. Poured a deep brown-orange colour with red highlights and a nice tanned creamy head. Beautiful lacing was left behind. The aroma seemed very sour with a mix of chocolat. The taste was very well balanced between the sweet chocolat-toffee and the bitterness. Lots of fruits were found in the mouth. Pretty darn good ! GregClow (3402) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 15, 2005
Sampled at C’est What’s Spring 2005 Festival of Small Breweries. Dark copper colour. Aroma is nutty and roasty, very inviting. Flavour is well rounded, with roasted malt, dark sugar and a bit of fruit. The finish is a little short - an extra hit of hops would be nice - but all in all, it’s a good strong ale. 12oz bonus via Puzzl. Pours dark brown with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and nutty. Taste is sweet with some nice chewy malts, basically a brown ale, with a bit of oomph.
