Bottle thanks to HogTownHarry! Really enjoyed the nose on this one... like a stronger brown ale with nutty notes, chocolate, brown sugar, and rum-laced darker fruits... a little spiciness on top. Flavor had smooth caramel, chocolate, and nutty malts at the core... mild herbal bitterness, a little wood, and brown sugar were secondary... finish picked up a bit more alcohol, which threw off the balance a tad. This was a very good beer that I could drink a lot of. Thanks Harry! markas101 (2468) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - OCT 23, 2006
33cl bottle, Shelburne. Dark amber pour, sweet caramel and spices. Full flavour, smooth finish, very little alcohol evident for such a strong beer. Great job. hobbersr (690) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 21, 2009
Acquired in a trade with Matt7215. Pours a mahogany colour with a nice tan coloured head. Aroma is of caramel, chocolate, a hint of red berries and a nutty aroma. Tastes nice and roasty with caramel and chocolate coming through. The finish tastes like spiced nuts. Creamy mouth feel. Nice beer. Thanks Matt! EHGsean (28) - CANADA - MAY 1, 2009
Caramel, chocolate, and a bit of an alcohol warmth that comes through in the finish. When compared to the "Wellington County Dark", this beer is by far the superior brew. Sweet and nutty, with a bit of roast. Zenwolf (269) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 14, 2010
Bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with a very thin light tan head. Mild caramel thats nuitty with good malting. The mouth is full and rich with dark fruits, complex sugars and a slight hopsy bitter. A great brew.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown color with a one finger white foamy head that gently dissipated to leave a light somewhat foamy lacing roaming along the glass in a slight trickling sort of fashion.
The smell started off with a rich nuttiness eventually allowing a light vanilla and then an intruding chocolate with a decent booziness.
The taste took all of those flavors and combined wonderfully.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionability to it. The carbonation finishes slightly harsh and its got a deal boozy vanilla aftertaste.
Overall, this was a pretty good offering that I would have again. screigh (743) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 10, 2002
This reminds me a little of Goose Island Hex Nut (one of my favorite beers). This is one of the best Canadian beers I have ever had. Plenty of flavor. radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 10, 2002
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2004 Dark brown in colour. Aroma of cherries, malt, slight roast. Flavour was of slight roast, with some caramel, slightly sweet, full bodied. Finishes with a medium bitterness, slightly dry. daboskabouter (1470) - Fergus, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 17, 2002
Dark red. Very fruity nose with a touch of hops. Good maltiness, hints of fruit and alcohol in the body. Finishes nicely bitter. Another quality offering from Wellington. dhurtubise (568) - Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 21, 2002
Light, malty, nutty aroma. Dark amber with cream coloured head. Rich malty, full bodied, strong sweet raisiny taste, flavour and aroma hops used, (fuggles i think). Rather thin lingering finish.
