4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Another winner from several new (to me) English ales that I have purchased recently. This is, simply put, good beer. It’s not Imperial anything, it does not have extra extra hops or malt, or funny flavorings - no, it is just a well made, good tasting beer. Sometimes that’s what this is all about. This is real tasty stuff!
Surprisingly light (and arguably even refreshing) despite its creamy mouthfeel, it then takes a quick final detour and ends with an incredible toffee-like finish. In many ways, it feels like the inverse of a regular stout. Peer closely enough and it’s a light amber instead of the brownish black it first appears to be. It starts with a brash hit of malt and closes with a thick, rich sweetness. The mouthfeel is creamy without being a throaty-thickness. At times, it feels like every bit of the experience was engineered to subvert the notion of a typical stout. One of the best picks from The Great Beer Bar. Probably the most sour horrible apology for beer that I have attempted to drink since draught beer desert of the 1970's.

50cl bottle at La Tabernilla, Oviedo, Spain. Pours dark intense brown with fine white foam. Aroma is malty, cherries under spirit to some extent. Body is light, with very light carbonation. Taste is subtle bitter. Finish is relatively long with some bitterness. Davros IX (485) - Hertford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 18, 2017
Bottle at home while watching the Singapore Grand Prix. It poured well and although there wasn't much aroma it looked good in the tankard. The taste was that of a good bitter. There was biscuit malt, bitter hops and a nice mouthfeel. It's a classy bitter and it was a pleasure to drink.

Ambergeel, crèmekleurige foamy schuimkraag, iets wazig , weinig koolzuur.
Aroma: Karamel, bloemig, moutig/brood/biscuit.
OminouSC2 (895) - Mora, SWEDEN - AUG 10, 2017
Copper colored, small beige head. Aromas of bread, malt and dark fruits. Medium bitter taste with bread, fruit, caramel and slight hops. Bitter finish. kraddel (8864) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - JUL 2, 2017
Blind tasting with Dr Beer. I really seem to start to like English bitters. Not as bitter as expected, but that seems to be the rule for ESB’s to me. i enjoyed it. sjorsvdg (585) - NETHERLANDS - JUN 30, 2017
Prima Engels bier, mooi bitter van hop en fruitig. Tevens wat bloesem en graan. Lekker voor tussendoor.
