Another winner from several new (to me) English ales that I have purchased recently. This is, simply put, good beer. Its not Imperial anything, it does not have extra extra hops or malt, or funny flavorings - no, it is just a well made, good tasting beer. Sometimes thats what this is all about. This is real tasty stuff!

Bottle. Rate for 2010 version at 5.2% - Dark Amber in colour, Red against light. Malty; toasted/roasted malts, caramel, toffee, hint of chocolate. Fruity; raisins, dark fruits. Hoppy; spicy (peppery) and earthy hops. Sweet malty fruity throughout with a slightly bitter hoppy edge. Dry bitter malty finish. (2010-03)

Jambes lisses. Alcool qui ne travaille aucunement les saveurs. Finale linaire. CONCLUSION: inglorious, isnt it?

Slightly veiled dark amber color with dense activity. Creamy light brown 2 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with generous legs. Flavors of caramel, soft molasses, roasted grains, berries, raisins, prunes, nutmeg, and herbal spices. Bready and toasty. Slightly sharp and bitter, but more sugary and slightly syrupy. Oily smooth medium body with moderate crispy carbonation. Light finish, accessible while well intensified, a bit of spicy and leafy hops, lingering toffee feel with faint roasted barley. Good flavors and pretty refreshing, but it quickly feels a bit flat and thin. The finish is pleasant and well balanced. Overall good quality craft.
