BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - JUN 28, 2008
Bottle: Pours a thin amber color, maybe tawny. Very little head and zero lacing. Plenty of carbonation in the bottle, but somehow none of it effects the mouthfeel. The nose is slightly toasty with a subtle rye and brown sugar note. The flavor is meaty and bready but has a very low acidity and high residual attenuation so it feels flat and lame on the palate. Chewy body, decent melanoidins but a lack of umami and adequate carbonation fail to fly this kite very high.

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Tastes sourish and moldy, could be more spicy. Finish almost vapid. An average beer!

daddyslick (36) - Arizona, USA - JUN 14, 2008
This beer pours a very clear copper color. It smells faintly like caramel. It is slightly sweet to taste, which quickly turns into a slight bitterness then leaves the mouth cleanly. No after-taste. It is very drinkable.

Bottled. A rich amber coloured beer with an off-white head. The aroma is fairly bready sweet malty. Caramel and bread sweetness in the taste. A nice body and pretty nicely tasty.

larsga (7567) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 6, 2008
Biggish offwhite head. Amber body with light carbonation. Light earthy caramel aroma with faint papery notes and some hops at the far back. Dry earthy caramel taste. Clean, sharpish mouthfeel. Bitter earthy caramel aftertaste with grassy hop notes and a touch of wood. Good, but the taste is very subdued. If there were more of it this could be really great; as it is it’s OK. (0.5l bottle at Cardinal.)

Beerdedone (3408) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 6, 2008
Bottle sampled. Pours a nice copper color with a one finger off-white head. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel, and some toffee. Flavor is moderatly sweet and smooth with caramel malts, toffee, light molasses and some mild spices. Decent brew.

bhensonb (15355) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 2, 2008
Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Aroma of caramel accompanied by fruity notes - going from plum towards prune in a mild manner. Burnished copper color - it changes with lighting, and a white head that flattened, ringed and disappeared. Medium bodied with mild, fizzy carbonation. Body thins as carbonation departs. Flavor is malty/bready, balanced by decent bitterness. However, the fun thing is the fruit that dances around the hop and malt. I still find light plumminess. Perhaps they used floral hop. The finish is slightly drying, and the bitter stays around. It is just delightful.

Warm amber with a nice head. The aroma is malty with notes of grain and caramel. The flavour is malty, slightly sweet with notes of grain and caramel and a light bitterness. Perhaps a bit monotonous, but OK. 2026

Best By Date February 2009; Sampled January 2008
Pours with a frothy, initially three-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a brilliantly clear, light cranberry color, but shows a pretty, copper hue when held up to the light. The aroma is sweet and malty with just a touch of hop character. Aromatic notes of honey-like malt, soda crackers, chewy bread aromas as well as faint hop notes of grass and slight herbals are found in the nose. A pleasant aroma, though it is not overly characterful.

Sweet tasting, yet somewhat on the light side for the amount of sweetness. Sweet grain notes are noticed up front, but the finish has more of a washed out, grassy hop character to it. Cracker like malt notes that seem a bit on the stale side as well as some toasty grain notes are the most dominant note in the finish. this has a light-medium heft to it that makes it noticeable, but still easily quaffable.

Not a bad beer, but it does seem a little past its prime, though I wonder how fresh it is (it has another year to go according to the bottle date). I do like the chewy malt character and how quaffable the brew is.

Holdwine (1233) - Beertimore, Maryland, USA - JAN 5, 2008
I was thinking soft and mellow for a Winter ale and then I see Vienna lager and it makes sense. Easy drinking, wet hay notes, Some sweetness. A wee bit watery, but an nice all around brew.
