GBBF. Cask. Clear brown beer. Dry palate. Ok brown malts. Reasonable well balanced with some tangy fruits. Quite a bitter aftertaste. Ok.
Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours dark brown with a foamy, tan head. Quite a bit of dark, cocoa malts and dry-roast coffee on the nose. Flavor is incredibly smooth and well-rounded. Medium sweet, just mild roasty bitterness, some dry, roasted malts, subtle earth, a little bit of bread. Medium bodied with fine, relaxed carbonation. Very light drying on the finish, restrained roastiness, hints of alcohol, light cocoa. Very drinkable if not highly complex. chriso (21656) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2011
Cask (handpump) at the Great British Beer Festival (day 3) on 4 August 2011. Very dark brown colour, almost black. No head to speak of. Distinctly fruity - dark berries, plums and maybe raisins. Also chocolate and moderately roasted malt, particularly on the palate. Some, slightly burnt, bitterness. Very tasty, if difficult to categorise. I tend to find Weltons beers a bit hit and miss but this one was a definite hit.
