Cask handpull at The Crosse Keys Bishopsgate as ’Weltons Heat was in the very sod’, 4.9%. Very dark brown, almost opaque with a slight red hue, small diminishing tan head. Aroma is clove sweets all over. Body is smooth with light carbonation. Taste is mega clove sweets, clove dental rinse, light rye notes, peppery spicy finish. Very sugary and clove-forward. I struggled with a few sips of this in all honesty, and couldn’t finish my half despite my determination to do so. Delivers on the seasonal vibe but not to my taste at all. Bad. Cask at the Masque Haunt, JDW, London. Pours clear, dark brown with a foamy, beige head. Mild ashy roast aroma. Light to medium sweet flavor with medium roast, earth, burnt cocoa, hints of ash. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet finish with charcoal, light roast, tobacco, hints of dark fruits, dirt, minerals and baking cocoa. So so.
