Bottle. Pitch Black in colour. Malty; roast malts, lots of liquorice, hint of bitter coffee. Salty, but couldnt taste any oyster. Hoppy; earthy hops. Bitter roast malty throughout. (2009-03)

Cask @ The Fox, Shipley. Black with a creamy-smooth off-white head. Has a light and easy drinking texture with not a lot of roasted malt, some - but mainly a smooth crispness.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours deep, dark, red-brown. Thin tan head. Aromas of iron, light coffee. Taste is more iron and coffee. Light sweet finish. Medium body, creamy texture. Not bad.

Bottle from local offie. Black beer with medium head and some lacing. Aroma of mild cocoa powder and roasted malts. Taste is roasted coffee, dark malts and some lactose with a bitter finish. Good stuff.

Cask at the Alexandra Arms, Rugby, 16/12/13. Mid black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is licqourice, lactic ring, earthy cocoa, dark toffee. Taste comprises milk chocolate, light roast, dark fruits, salt, liqourice. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light roast in a semi drying closure. Ok stout.

Dark brown color, small brownish head. Sticky vinegar, dark malty aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Slightly tart, roasted, ashy flavor. Vegetables too. Not pleasant.

Cask @ Albion, Ampthill. Black with a little head. Aroma of chocolate, tobacco. Taste is sweet, bitter and umami with a Guinness-like sourness. Full palette.

Bottle from Rhythm & Booze Ripon. Pous almost black with virtually no head. Quite acidic at first with an almost citrus edge, before coffee coming through at the finish. to be fair this bottle was about 1 month after its best before, so it might not have been in the best condition.
