4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Big thanks to DocJ007 for sharing this one with us last night.
A - Pours mostly black with a nice one and a half finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small webs of lace on the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of vanilla, oak, cocoa, dark fruits, caramel, toffee, bit of coffee, oak, smokey dark roasted malt and the warm bourbon. A bit rough around the edges but still quite nice.
T - Starts off with a mix of sweetness; mainly the caramel, toffee, vanilla, cocoa and dark fruits; quickly being joined by the smokey dark malt, coffee, oak and the warming bourbon heat. Finish is smokey with some light sweetness, combining with the bourbon booze burn to linger long after the finish.
M - Big body with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel, could use a little more carbonation tho. Much like the other version the 11% is hidden quite well.
O - I enjoyed this one. It has most of the flavors I love in a stout and the bourbon isn’t over the top. It has some rough edges that should round out with a bit more time in the bottle. Not as good as the AB version but still quite good.
From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Corbet’s house on October 18. 22 oz bottle, 2014 vintage. Thanks Mickey! The pour is a nice darker black with a thin ring of darker khaki colored head with virtually no lace as it falls down to leave an oily liquid behind. The aroma is pretty good. There is a nice chocolate and bourbon to this with a growing oak sweetness and a light roasted malt. There is a kiss of vanilla that I’m liking. Maybe just a little dark fruit to make this a little different, but it’s well balanced and nice. The flavor is a little better. The chocolate and bourbon grow into the roasted malt and a lighter vanilla. The oak is well balanced and adds a nice depth to this one on the finish. The mouth feel is heavier medium bodied with a soft carbonation and some good staying power. The aftertaste is lingeringly chocolatey and roasty with just a touch of sharp alcohol. This is damn good. 8 4 9 4 16 90 (819) - BELGIUM - AUG 13, 2017
@ Billie’s Beer Kafetaria. (tap)
Leather and earthy cacao in aroma. Taste is boozy due to the bourbon, hazelnut, cacao and nicely burned grains. Full palate. Hermod (8349) - Vantaa, FINLAND - MAY 4, 2017
Tap @ Sori Taproom.
Pitch black color with a thin brown head.
Bourbon notes, vanilla, creamy chocolate. Smooth, creamy chocolate lingers. Roasted malty flavors, abv nicely hidden and the barrel does not dominate. Licorice in finish. Long finish. Jyrsa (962) - - APR 30, 2017
UPDATED: APR 30, 2017 Tap @ Sori Taproom. Black with brown head. Char, licorice, wine gums, alcohol. Smooth with lively and slick palate and somewhat light body. Coffee, char, vanilla and licorice. An interesting but not super exciting take on imperial stout. Tide (4356) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 30, 2017

Bottle from a recent SC trade. Pours a deep stout obsidian color with a dark tan head. Nose is roast, earth, tar, black coffee, vanilla, and mild booze. Flavor hits with vanilla, burned toast, tar, peat, vanilla, mild booze, some oxidation, and chocolate. Medium in body and very nice overall. neongolden (1827) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 1, 2016
(650ml 2014 bottle shared @ Himmeriget, Copenhagen, Oct 22 2016) Pours black with a small ring of brown bubbles and no lace. Aroma has heavy notes of toasted wood, bourbon, vanilla, molasses, sugar syrup, chocolate and alcohol. Flavour is extremely sweet dark malts with toffee, molasses, raw sugar and chocolate character, paired with aggressive bourbon spirit notes, burnt wood and vanilla, with a finish that becomes moderately bitter with some roast, wood and alcohol heat. Alcoholic aftertaste. Medium full syrupy body with little carbonation. I found this a mix of sickly sweet and too much raw spirit. 2 years in barrel and 2 years in bottle might have skewed the balance but it was a difficult beer to drink much of. markextrae (4485) - Alingsås, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - AUG 8, 2016
Bottle shared at Himmeriget. Poured deep black with a tanned head. Nose of roasted notes, vanilla, chocolate fudge, molasses, sweet bourbon nose, charred oak, notes of smoke, and light metallic notes. Even more than the Apple brandy version. Not a huge fan of this series. It’s mainly just an overpowering barrel spirit. Completely lost it’s balance sunevdj (4128) - Copenhagen OE, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2016
On tap at CBC 2014. Pours a very dark brown. Quite sweet with a light bitterness. Malty aromas of toffee and molasses with notes of bourbon, maple syrup and cask wood. Hints coconut. Full bodied. Medium to soft carbonation. Dry finish. TheJestersBeer (2431) - SWEDEN - MAY 31, 2016
