COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The “Old Time” series is a collaboration with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The base beer (a Belgian-style strong dark ale) for all four Old Times was originally brewed in July 2011, then aged in a variety of oak barrels, some with and some without a blend of brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.

Funky Old Time was aged for 18 months in two American oak red wine barrels with wild yeast/brewing bacteria.

Another winner from Westbrook. Thanks to the dude at RRBS who brought five or so different beers from this brewery that were all awesome and that i had not had. Funky, oaky, dry and delicious.

Bottle at Tony/Jim BA Birthday Extravaganza 2013 (Western Springs, IL). Pours a darker ruby brown hue, a darker murky well hazed hue settles in, showing some faded subtle glow in the body, red and brown with a touch more life to the edges. Small frothy tan head dies to a small ring, laces small. Aromas are sour cherries and firmer red wine tannins, gentle funk, oak, vanilla. The funkiness starts to come in a bit more, a bit vinous and balsamic. Develops well compared to the Brandy sour. Initial mirrors what it’s offering, a firmer lactic sourness meets tannic red wine, Sour cherries and tannic barrel, touches of mellow body show biscuit, but largely mellowed out. The wild yeast gives a firmer balsamic and sour cherry, lactic sourness as we press on. A touch acidic but in an enjoyable way. Backend is where the red wine element takes off a bit more. Dry, red wine, tannic feel starts to coat the palate, a synergy feel with the sourness, still firm but even keeled. Finish is touches of mellow sweetness, lingering lactic elements and a firmer barrel presence. Really nice step and a considerable step up from the Grumpy version.

[email protected] Dark ruby color, steady beige head. Very cheesy, very funky, very intensive. Medium-bodied. Fruity, tartish, bretta ... Not so demanding taste than aroma is.

Pours completely flat with no carbonation or head. Dark reddish brown. Nice funky, oaky aroma. Lack of carbonation makes for a flat mouthfeel. Extremely complex flavors; oak, funk, dark fruit. Fairly acidic finish, but with nice hints of vanilla and red wine. Dry finish.This is a unique and complex beer, and definitely something any fan of sours should try. The lack of carbonation is really the only knock I have on this beer.

Bomber. Poured a murky dark brown with a medium-sized tan head. Lots of nice lacing. Aroma and flavor were sour fruit, plums, cherries, light apple, some roasted malt, moderately acidic, quite sour and funky. Wood and vinous notes were quite restrained, particularly given how long it aged. Medium mouthfeel; soft carbonation. Very complex; great balance between all the elements. I want to try the rest in the series!

Unclear medium to dark brown - red amber colour with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, berries, funky, light roasted, wood. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, light light acidic and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, wood, dusty, sweet malt, tart notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. CBC 2013. Pours deep redish mahogany with a great lacing tanned head. Aromais fruity a bit acidy malty dark fruits a bit smoked. Flavor is acidy a bit sweet sour malty bitter pungent.
