Bottle thanks to kermis. Pours very dark brown with not much head at all. Aroma is big liquorice, roasted malts, boozy and some coffee. Taste is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation. devman171 (1221) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - MAY 11, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2013 Bottle share, pour is dark black with low head. Taste is sweet up front, big roast and whiskey, strange aftertaste. mnmike (1086) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 13, 2013
Sampled this one wandering around the line on Darkness Eve 2013. Just missed the Mexican Cake poured right before this. Roasty stout with hidden alcohol. mixmasterob (1058) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAR 3, 2013
Bottle from Hop City. Nice find. Thick black pour with a dense but quickly fading dark brown head. Very pretty. Aroma was very Baltic porter esque with big roasty malts and earthy hops. Somewhat of a lactose presence in the nose and finish. Flavors were welcoming and actually somewhat subtle. The subtle ness was actually quite nice and made this way drinkable and rather refreshing. Big roasted malts, coffee, light vanilla and a clean light bitter finish. The lager yeast gives this an almost delicate profile among the massive amounts of malt and hops. This was fantastic. ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - JUN 4, 2013
22oz bottle from GBX. pours a thick, syrupy, brown that sits black in the glass capped by a dense mocha head that leaves oily stains of lace. aroma is excellent with heavy dark chocolate, fudge brownies, roasted malts, and moist earth backed by intriguing and subtle notes of black cherry, blueberry, trail mix, and bitter espresso. flavor is outstanding with rich, dark roasted malts, coffee beans, dark chocolate cake, and light peat smoke up front backed by red wine, blueberry skins, and sweet molasses. palate is full bodied and rich but the lager yeast keeps it from being syrupy and adds a fluffy texture to the mouthfeel. overall, another winner from the Westbrook guys.

A: Pours a pitch black color with a thick, dark mocha head forming on the pour. The retention is top notch. Sticky sheets of lace are left down the glass.
S: This is big beer. Super roasty with some fruity yeast in the periphery. Alcohol notes are present, but it doesn’t detract from the roasted malts and big dark chocolate notes. Some cocoa powder is there as well.
T: A ton of roasted malts, some char and a touch of cocoa bean. Bitter dark chocolate with some light fruity yeast in the background. Definitely seems like an amped up Baltic porter due to the yeast strain. Enjoyable.
M: Low carbonation. Silky smooth across the palate. Medium bodied. Finish is chocolate and big roast.
O: This a big and roasty beer, but the yeast strain drops subtle hints that it’s still got some Baltic porter bloodlines at heart. It’s pretty ready to go now with the booze well hidden. Don’t really see this benefiting from any extended aging. Maybe a year if you want the robust roasted malts to die down a bit.

Pitch black colour, medium dark brown head. Nice roasted malty aroma with coffee, licorice, red grapes, herbal notes as well as a slight medicinal one, as well as some ash, vanilla. Smooth, easy drinking. Heavy roasted malty flavour with chocolate, coffee, some ash, licorice, tobacco, biscuits, red grapes, almonds. Somewhat peculiar but a great beer nonetheless.
