Spirit of Kent celebrates the Kent Spitfire, a Mark IX Spitfire housed at the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar. It also recalls the “XXX Modification Depth Charges” that flew out of Biggin Hill in June 1944 filled with Westerham Ales. The “XXX Joy Juice” was racked into the unused auxiliary fuel tanks and flown over to the forward airbases in France.
This golden ale is hopped with 9 different types of Kent bred hops in a total of 9 separate additions. That really is the Spirit of Kent – a beer with probably the most types of hops on the planet….?

Cask @ GBBF 2014. Had to try this essential Kentish golde. Light amber pour with a small head. Nose is sort of yeasty. Fruity and a bit doughy. Peach and pizza dough. Flavor is a bit better. Mellow baked bread and some spring fruits. Fairly clean. Medium body, moderate carb. OK gear.

Cask pint in the Victoria Station Wetherspoons on 9th Feb 2016. Golden pour with a good white topping. Decent blend of flavours with a mild grapefruit/citrus lead in both the nose and mouth. Malts lay just below the surface and calm the hops citrus bite nicely.

Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 3 - London. Pours clear orange-gold with a white cream topping. Solid bitter, with semi-dry citrus fruits, dry pine, grainy bread, faint dough and leaves. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Pretty well balanced on the finish, lightly drying, with leafy bitterness and citrus rind. Good.

The_Osprey (8515) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2014
Cask at Sir Richard Steele pub. Pale orange, clear, still, small white head. Aroma is very toned down but there is some soft malt, glue. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is light malts, floral drying hop, resinous and pithy - too bitter like meadowsweet, chewing on banana skin. Didn’t finish my half.
