4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
330ml bottle into a tulip.
Pours a clear very dark brown, nearly opaque. Topped by a huge billowy off-white head that keeps growing thanks to the abundant carbonation. Some of the best head retention I have every seen.
Aroma has lots of dark fruit such as figs and cherries layered on top of wood. Hints of pipe tobacco along with wet grass and hay. A little bit of light cocoa underneath.
The flavor really has tons going on. Like in the aroma, dark fruit predominantly up front consisting largely of cherries and figs. A decent woody note is present along with a little bit of must although it nicely compliments the other flavors. Grass comes in next along with a moderate, cleansing bitterness. The beer finishes dry on the palate with bitterness lingering long after all other flavors depart.
Overall, a truly complex and amazing beer. There is really so much going on here and the flavors change as the beer warms. One of the classics.
33cl bottle at home. Appearance: hazy dark brown with medium, creamy head with good retention. Aroma: brown sugar, dried fruits, banana, sweet spices and a trace of butterscotch. Taste: fairly high sweetness and medium bitterness. Malty with notes of banana, dark malts, brown sugar, caramel, spices, yeast and a trace of licorice. Palate: medium bodied, oily texture and lively carbonaton

Smells and tastes of raisins, mushrooms, alcohol, wood, and roasted malt. I guess you could also convince me of the "ripe banana" in the description, though it’s not the first thing that comes to mind. Classic dubbel flavour. rob19a (352) - - JUL 20, 2017
13/20 very smooth, not a massive taste but the fruity taste was there. mega fizzy, had to spoon off some foam after pouring. easy drinking dubbel but not the most complex i’ve tasted.

After a hot bike ride at the Keiser Karel in Olen, one of these sure hit the spot. A bit bitter, but overall, quite enjoyable and refreshing. Maracuja05 (1280) - Mainz, GERMANY - JUL 17, 2017
30-06-17 // 2016 bottled version. Pours a deep brown beer with a nice twofinger thick frothy head.Mild banana ester nose. Taste is sweet malty, mild caramel, mild banana fruity.
Final e retrogosto levemente lupulado, cítrico e amargo. PaulMcClure (12) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 9, 2017
I was lucky enough to enjoy this one on tap from Brussels’ oldest bar. Everything about this beer from the dark amber/brown color to the roasted taste is right up my alley as far as beer is concerned. Absolutely would recommend this beer to anyone who can get their hands on it. Favorite of all the trappist beers. gripweed57 (2463) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - JUL 7, 2017
330 ml bottle. Translucent reddish brown color. Small, bubbly beige head. Dried fruit nose. Soft toasted malt flavor has a tangy, dark dried fruit essence. Subtle, yet complex. Nutty, earthy, vanilla notes. Sweet brown sugar malty notes in finish. Quite delicious, thank you.
