This is an absolutely exceptional beer. There aren’t many things wrong with it at all. This Abbey Dubbel smells and tastes like Welch’s juice company brewed it. It comes out of the bottle very fizzy, with a ruby body and a substantial tan head. The smell is pure grape and prune juice. The taste is dominated by the grape and prune flavor, with some molasses in the background and something kind of smokey in there too. Every sip of this is a flavor explosion. I am definitely going to seek out more of this.

Backlog, bottle shared with Joe. Pours a dark red brown shade with smaller sized top. Notes of plum, cherry skin, belgian fruit, sugar, yeast, malt toast and cacao. Well executed dubbel.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. Pours reddish brown with a creamy off-white lasting head. Aroma of malt, caramel, hop, dark fruits, light spice and yeast. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium to full bodied, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Very good.

Rich and full. Deep brown with a thin pale head and a good amount of storming. Some haze and bitterness from the sediment. Nutty and not too much yeasty funk. Incredibly approachable and good.

(330 ml bottle) Pours a hazy chestnut-brown beer, with yeast sediment sitting in suspension. Steady medium carbonation forms a rocky tan-colour head. If ’brown’ were an aroma, this would be it! Dates, figs, treacle sponge, raisins, rum, muscavado, vanilla, earth, floral hops, the bitter leaves of Himalayan balsam, cinnamon, warm winter spices, cherry liqueur, and a dry oak finish. All combined by a medium-dry taste and a smooth, medium mouthfeel. This beer is astonishingly complex, stunningly balanced, and brought to full gravity without a hint of alcohol. Pure craft! Those monks know a thing or two...

Øllen kommer med en en rigtig god og blid eftersmag, den er ikke for bitter på trods af, at det er en mørk katolsk munkeøl. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Another bottle I enjoyed at Bistro l’Autre Oeil in Aylmer. Pours a very frothy light brownish head and has a hazy, light brown/coppery appearance. Pretty good lacing. Fairly excessive carbonation. Yeasty sediments are clearly visible. Aromas of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate. Alcohol does come through almost immediately but not offensive along with flavours of caramel, light chocolate notes, raisins, yeast and barley malts. Warming sensation. Creamy and mildly drying mouthfeel. Goes down real nice and easy and at 7%abv, just perfect.
