corkyrory66 (1999) - BELGIUM - MAY 10, 2013

Pours a murky copper with a light and marshmallow-y off -white head. Westoek XX has an intriguing tropical nose of guava, berries, some grapes, and healthy doses of spice and funk. There is a neat depth of fruity flavors on the first swallow, with kiwi the most prominent but strawberry and bananas also present, along with lots of chewy spice on the finish. Upon subsequent swallows, the barnyard flavors become more and more dominant, along with warm apple and some more muted and textured tropical notes.

A gusher; cloudy orange, floaty bits, large white head; hoppy aroma; taste is fruity, appley, funky; hard to describe (especially when your not taking notes because you’re eating your Christmas Eve dinner) but make no mistake this was gloriously moreish and I’ll be having one or two more in 2014.

Piwo prawie wyskakuje z butelki a juz zaczyna sie piana tworzyc podczas nalewania ale w butelce. Po prostu sama wychodzi. Nie da sie jej opanowac. Stanowi wiekszosc po nalaniu niz piwa. A piwo jest kolory pomaranczowego silnie zmetnionego. I o jaskrawym odcieniu. Zapach morelowy i brzoskwiniowy a takze nieco pieczonych jablek w tle. Alkohol ukryty. Tresciwe i smaczne piwo.

Dark orange, evaporating beige airy head. Nose: cherries, sour hint, wild yeast. good carbonation. taste: fruity, apple, flowers. finish is sweetish, subtile, but mainly sourish. very refreshing, whaaaw I am perplexed. what a surprise. I definitely thad this beer before, cant remember it tasted this way (sourish) and this good! (had the bottle in The Capital and did check maturity date which was still good)

Bottle, 330 ml. Exploded on opening (oops). Pours very very cloudy dark amber/orange with (explosion aside) a large amount of frothy, dense, off-white head. Lacing is very thick thick and there’s no carb visible (though this has been settling for a bit). Very juicy looking and head retains forever. Nose is strongly fruity and sour; lots of ripe green apple, citrus, pineapple, bit of champagne, floral, garden notes. Some sweeter stuff going on underneath; candied fruits, sugar, banana esters, clove. Musty, whiff of resinous hops, no booze. All working very well so far! Taste is initially sweet and juicy with more pineapple, light honey before a hefty hit of sour in the middle, opening up a whole basket of fruity flavours including the aforementioned pineapple, lemon, grapefruit, green apple, several varieties of melon (honeydew and watermelon most prominent) and a bit of blood orange towards the end. The sour astringency continues into the finish to join with a fairly potent grapefruit bitterness and lingering cereal and melon. Throughout there’s a bit of spice (mostly clove and coriander) and belgian yeast, though this isn’t too prominent. Body is medium-full, texture is thick and sticky, carbonation is moderate finish is fairly crisp and dry but long and bitter. Fantastic array of fruity flavours combining with a hefty sourness make this a seriously refreshing brew despite the 8% ABV (which is completely hidden taste-wise). Just wish I hadn’t lost half of it upon opening!

Lore (2746) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JUL 4, 2014
very hazy orange colour, medium sized dense yellowish head; aroma of dried fruits (mostly figs and plum), yeast, earth, some caramel and hints of dessert wine (with raisin notes); taste of caramel, slight citrus, yeast, dried fruits (plum) again and hints of spicy alcohol; really good Belgian strong ale

FreshHawk (596) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - APR 8, 2011
Bottle. A - Similar to the regular Westoek, which is a good thing. Darker copper color with a large, foamy, somewhat thick, frothy, white head. A little more foamy and not quite as thick as the regular. Good retention with a nice lace. S - Very nice fruity aroma. Citrus and tropical fruit with a nice mix of tropical fruit, floral, and grassy hops. A good amount of ripe banana as well (more than the regular). Doesn’t have the funk and has a nice sweetness along with a touch of Belgian yeast. T - Definitely bigger and bolder than the regular (much appreciated). A big blast of tropical and stone fruit and a lot of ripe banana followed by a nice bready and spiced flavor. Belgian yeast in the background and a subtle sweetness. A nice hoppy tripel with a good fruity aspect along with a touch of floral and grassy hops. M - Medium body with a bit below average carbonation. Quite smooth. D - Really enjoyed this with all the aspects together. Bold with a nice fruity, hopped up tripel (compared to the bland flavor of the regular version). Just very easy to drink and flavorful. Notes: Really liked this beer. The aspects weren’t so up and down compared to the regular, but overall I enjoyed it more. Everything just worked well together even though the individual aspects themselves weren’t great. Much more flavorful than the regular version. Overall it was an enjoyable hoppy tripel.
