Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap ($7): Pours mahogany with a small head. Aroma is dark fruits, spice, cigars, some hops, and bits of chocolate. Taste has an earthy and fruity bitter taste to it. Somewhat sweet, but still very drinkable. High abv is very well covered. Well put together. FROTHINGSLOSH (8069) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 3, 2014
UPDATED: JUL 13, 2014 Sampled on draft at Gateway Grille this beer poured a dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized creamy tan head that lingered forever and left exceptional lacing. The aroma was sweet caramel, toffee, dark fruits, fig and tobacco. The flavor was sweet and tangy toffee, wood, fig, cherry, tobacco and had a pronounced boozy presence. Medium length fruit and booze finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid. Jesterdeal (1985) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - APR 30, 2014
4oz pour at the Fare. Even that might have been too much. Aroma was malt forward with some fig bar and chocolate notes. Pours thick and dark brown with very little film. Taste is malt forward with chocolate bread notes and a big brown sugar presence. Very one-dimensional and kind of boring for as strong as this is. UPDATED: APR 13, 2014 Draft at Good Dog and later at the Khyber. Clear dark copper pour that started with an impressive tan head. Not much aroma at first, but it bloomed nicely as it warmed. First taste pops with unexpected bright juicy hop flavors despite the undeniable dark malts that form the backbone. Charged dark fruit. Spicy tangerine curry. Chocolate cinnamon toast. Brandied plums. Figs dipped in turpentine. Burnt celery hearts. Pecan pie with heavy molasses. Blood pudding. Darkly sweet but the lingering spice more than balances it out. Really nice complex brew.
