lots of rich malty sweetness, roasted chocolate malt, and just a hint of smoke. cheekybaby (12) - - JAN 28, 2012
The smoky dark goodness of this beer makes me one happy lady. It keeps my heart warm in the cold winter. sinkr (323) - Odenton, Maryland, USA - JUL 17, 2009
Bottle->lager glass: Pours a large, rocky, off-white, but lasting head that exhibits good lacing atop a clear, brown body. Aroma of burnt sugar. The body is medium with soft carbonation. The flavor’s duration is long, being moderately sweet and bitter. There is also a piney/cedar taste in this beer which I enjoyed, thought was unique and hence the slightly higher-than-average rating on my part. This is truly a fantastic brew. The aroma is a subtle sweet caramel candle smell with a hint of a malty porter flavor but much more subtle. Yes, there is a hint of smokiness but almost invisible. This is a warming fireside brew, but I would also be opt to drink this one just about anywhere anytime. Excellent beer with a great balance of alcohol. Clear copper color, decent head retention. Aroma of caramel, nuts, roasted malts. Med-lite sweetness, lite bitter. Med body, creamy texture, ave carbonation. Subtle smoked wood flavor in the taste with caramel and hazelnut in there. Well done again Weyerbacher. HardingG (76) - Butler, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 5, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2012 I am having this on a cool spring evening..... so that may skew the rating - it is infact better suited for winter. Aroma is sweet malt / molasses and a hint of smokiness. I love ’em dark..... great appearance. Taste and palate are pleasant and sweet. It reminds me of the aftertaste one gets when exiting a humidor. Overall, great..... just wrong season. Draft at Redlight Redlight. 1st beer in a smoked horizontal draft selection. Nice smokiness with a rich maltiness in the nose. Deep ruby color, smallish head with sparse lacing. Light smoke flavor again with a good maltiness. Tingly finish. malrubius (3086) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - MAR 4, 2009
On tap at Rattle n Hum a couple weeks ago (from scribbled notes). Called "Charlie". Dark brown with lasting head and lace. Mild smoky brown sugar bready aroma. Medium smoky caramel brown sugar ripe fruity aleness with mild bitter finish and lingering smoke. Well blended with noticeable smoke. Enjoyable despite the fruity mid-section. Nice effort.
