3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at Sunset Grill, mid October 08
I heard this was a rye lager, then a smoked rye ale, and now from their website, it appears this is a lightly smoked (10% smoked malt) brown ale.
Frankly, at 10% of the grist, I’d consider it a brown ale, but whatever. The smoke comes through right away, in the nose, but is certainly not overwhelming. Soft chocolate and honey tones are noted as well. Low on hops, with a dry, woodsmoke-like smokiness and low fruitiness.
Soft on the palate, with a light to medium body and no alcohol noted. Not overly watery, and despite the lightness, it dosent seem washed out as I tend to find weyerbacher beers (due to filtration). Must be the freshness, who knows. Sweet brown sugar, light hints of roast and vanilla tickle the palate on the end, while the smokiness is very balanced and dry.
Wonderful chartreuse-mahogany color with a medium-sized light-tan head.
Backlog, Draft at Theresas for their Weyerbacher event. reddish brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, smoked malt, caramel, and roast. Flavor is similar with char, roasted malt, and other fruits. Body was medium. GreatDane1632 (1169) - North Dakota, USA - DEC 9, 2014
Rated based on notes taken 24 Feb 2012 -- Tasted at a sampling, and this was a highlight. Very good beer. portableparty (2379) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - OCT 23, 2013
12 oz. bottle. Pours a semi murky brown with a tight soapy foamy off white head that slowly settles to a thin creamy spotty film and lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel toffee and roasted smoked malt. Taste has a nice smokiness and mild sweetness with toffee caramel roasted malt and has a lingering bitterness. Palate is medium and slightly slick with a dry finish. Very nice and smooth! I should of bought a 4 pack! Lenusik (119) - Illinois, USA - JUN 24, 2013
A brownish copper coloured beer that had little head. The aroma is nutty malt, smoke, and a hint of coffee. The flavour is ’blah’. Some weak malt and smoke hints give way to an overly bitter finish. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a moderate white head. Nose is quite smokey with just a hint of malt character poking through underneath. Taste has a good deal of smoke coming through and just a hint of caramel sweetness. Very easy drink.

Bottle. Brown and still. Looks like an American brown ale of any other ilk. The aroma is muted as well. There is a nicely interwoven and subtle woodsy smokiness interlaced in what otherwise might be classified a roasted malty brew. Good for the fireside, indeed. A hazed brown ale with a thick brown head. In aroma, sweet berry malt with faint smoked notes. In mouth, a good vinous malt with light peated notes, licorice, a bit thin, but good. zgaier (1962) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - FEB 10, 2013
Pours a red brown with a light tan head and aroma of roasted malt, spices, and smoke. Taste is sweet, of roasted malt, smokey notes, with light fruit and spices notes and a medium, smokey finish. Solid, enjoyable brew jjgmd (2223) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - FEB 10, 2013
Pours a reddish rusty orange brown color, making it an eventful pour. Nose is malty and smoky with some peat and dark fruit. Taste is smoky with dark cherries and quite flavorful. Finish is fruity and sweet as well, and very drinkable. Quaff Score 7 / 10 GandGKevin (934) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - DEC 13, 2012
Year old. Found in the fridge. Sweet malty aromas. Smoky malty flavors. Overall it’s above average.
