Cloudy brown beer, no head. Sweetish malt and alcohol nose. Sweet spice too. Slightly dry palate. Sweet malt, sweet spice. Trace of bubblegum. Aniseed alcohol. Dry warming finish. Not great - perhaps should have left this for a year or two.
A: The pour is an amber brown sort of color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Not quite as boozy as the regular, thankfully. Some banana and lots of citrus, maybe some other dark fruit notes. A little bit of toasted and roasted malt.
T: Maybe a little bit of vanilla and toasted malt. There’s a little bit of banana and some citrus fruit flavors. Still fairly boozy, but that’s not surprising. Also some brown sugar and caramel.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Though not as boozy as the regular version, it’s still a bit much. bhensonb (15358) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 11, 2011
Not too retired bottle from Oak Tree. Glad they decided to bottle this. Pours hazy brown with transient beige smear of bubbles. Nice aroma of aged/overaged dark fruits. Strong C2H5OH aroma as the tulip approaches nose. Full bodied. Frothy creamy carb. Flavor is pretty roasted malt/wheat, with minor heat impacts on mouth edges. It’s sweet, but there’s enough bitter to knock that down. The brown sugar/fruity flavors are exquisite. It is a challenging and rewarding drink. Bottle from Capone’s. Pours turbid mahogany with 3 finger off-white head. Nose is caramel, toffee, red wine grapes, cobwebby figgy yeasty esters, berry, cherry, and spice. Tastes very malty, yeasty estery, with cherry and berry, a lot of caramel, some fig, backup hops. Complex, but a bit muddled. douglas88 (9437) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 29, 2009
12 ounce bottle, listed special dark 14th anniversary thanks to Eric. Pours a very cloudy brown color with a large beige head. The aroma is sweet malts, banana esters, light mustiness. The flavor is similar; like a rich Belgian ale, sweet bananas, musty malts, spicy and sweet. Very unique. egajdzis (6626) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 14, 2010
