From a bottle. Pours reddish brown with a creamy head that dissipates to a half inch. Aromas are sweet malt, dried fruit and bourbon. Flavors are caramel, chocolate raisin, cinnamon toast and some nutty notes. Boozy finish with distinctive bourbon flavor and a nicely balanced hop presence. Big, creamy, chewy beer. Surprisingly light on the palate which gives it a deceptively lighter feel. But make no mistake, at 11% ABV, this is a heavy hitter. Overall, this is a very nice ale. This would be a good sipper for a cold night. Not as hoppy as many barleywines, but very well balanced.

12 oz bottle shared by ebone1988. 2016 vintage. The pour is a dirty ruby brown with a thin light tan ring of head and a spot of lace as it hangs around. The aroma is really strong. There is a big alcohol right up front with a sweeter malt and a light caramel. Not a lot going on, but it's interesting. The flavor is much of the same. Watery caramel and a strong malt with a heavy alcohol. There is a toffee sweetness to it that balances out well. The mouth feel is sharp and medium bodied with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly bitter toffee malt and alcohol lingering on. This is still hot as hell. This beer is too strong for my taste. Too much bourbon alcohol dominates and does not allow the rest of the beer to come through. There is taste of dark fruits and figs in the background. Bouteille datée du 09/11/2015, bue après 21 mois. Robe rougeâtre légèrement trouble avec un mince voile de mousse. Arômes de petits fruits confits, vanille boisée, sucre d’orge, figue caramélisée, bourbon soyeux, légères effluves d’alcool doux, compote de pomme chaude saupoudrée de cannelle. En bouche, entrée sur le sucre d’orge, bourbon vanillé et le bois. Ensuite, baies confites, figue et léger caramel se joignent aux autres pour former une pluie de saveurs. L’alcool arrive ensuite et amenuise ceux-ci pour prendre lui-même plus de place. Ça devient un peu épicé avec traces citronnées et de bois sec. Légère astringence au palais. Texture huileuse et un peu légère pour le style, corps moyen à rond. Une belle variante de la Blithering Idiot. Malheureusement l’alcool prend trop de place et rend l’expérience moins intéressante. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, a bit of a leathery, farmy smell, and some cigar tobacco at the back of it. Delicious.

I am not a whiskey drinker, so this was repulsive to me. One drink and I had to pour the rest down the drain. Unsure which is the worst - this or Sunday Morning Stout. Both I would most likely vomit if I tried to drink the entire bottle. SG111 (1968) - New York, USA - FEB 24, 2017
Ta bien at Clubhouse BFD. Pours murky dusty copper. Small ring of off white head. Aroma is cherry, raisin, fig, minimal bourbon, little boozy, vanilla, toffee. Pours a dark brown / ruby red. A strong prune and caramel malt aroma like a quad. A sweet taste of dark fruit, prunes, caramel, malts and some spices. A lingering dark fruit and caramel malt aftertaste.
