This style is one I have not quite got around to really exploring yet. Ive had several Black IPAs and have never really cared for any of them. This one , so far, is my favorite. The main reason I enjoy this one is because it taste like an IPA and has a assertive hop profile. The maltyness is barely there and plays backseat to the hops. Lima succeeds in being both black and hoppy where other Black IPAs are neither good at being black or hoppy.

OLD GABF rating. Brown with tan head. Aroma is huge floral and citrus hops like a fresh hop almost. Taste is bitter and a little watery. Super bitter dry bite lasting to end though. r464 (2360) - Earth, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 22, 2011
Roasty malt aroma. Dark in color. An interesting brew, balanced all-in-all. A somewhat IPA like hoppiness is present, but roasted malts, almost porter-like, are there as well. Sweetness and bitterness with floral hops in the mix. Very interesting and worth trying. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 14, 2011
Deep black pour. The aroma is lightly peppery and a bit roasty. Some unusual molasses flavour through the middle. Assertively hopped and fairly lean although the hops are kind of herbal. Odd - although maybe that’s good. Very hoppy.

Pours a dark cola brown with a tan head. Aroma of pine, roasted malt, and hops. Roasted malt, caramel, and a bitter hop ending comprise a well-balanced flavor. Tight lacing. Very good beer.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Awesome resinous piney hoppy aroma with light roasted malts. The flavor is resinous hoppy and good and bitter with light roasted malts. Really good stuff. craftbeerdesign (2254) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 24, 2011
4 oz. sampler at Rattle ’N Hum on 4/22/11. dark brown / light black pour with a 1/4" tan head. big dank pot / citrus hoppy nose - this one feels and smells like they dry hopped the hell out of it. the hops really stick to you. the roasted malts peek through the load of hops. bitter dank earthy finish with chocolate and coffee undertones... this one is for the hop heads! Draft @ RNH. Pours deep black with thin head. Smells og hops and some chocolate malts. Taste is light and easy to drink. Kind of crisp at the end. Not bad. msojka (457) - New Jersey, USA - APR 13, 2011
Pour is nearly pure black with with decent sized tan head. Nose is of citrus, some pine, and hops. Taste is malty up front with a nice hoppy finish which flow very smoothly together. Dfonorow (2216) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 13, 2011
Pours extremely dark brown to black with a large foamy tan head. Aroma is roasty, malty, burnt sugar, touch of bitterness. Flavor is roasty with a touch of hops and bitterness in the end. Some sweetness, a little too thin for my liking.
