Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you’ll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - FEB 9, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 18, 2004 Deep black color with dark chocolate and rasberry taste and aroma. Lightly carbonated and warm mouthfeel. 8.2% masked very nicely. I could really get used to this stuff. Big espresso finish.

muzzlehatch (4963) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 8, 2004
12 oz bottle. Thick and opaque, very little head. Impressive figgy/coffee/chocolate/sour cherry aromas -- reminds me of a bittersweet chocolate candybar with bits of cherry. Very very smooth on the tongue, low hop presence throughout, again fairly bittersweet, just a bit low on the distinctiveness quotient that would make it a "great", but an attractive, very drinkable Imperial nonetheless.

wow....what a goooooood stout! poured thick, black with a dark brown thick head. detected a sweet chocolatey, coffee like aroma. tasted rich/oily sweet yet bitter with lots of chocolate/toffee/espresso flavors. this brew finished with a slight hoppy aftertaste but ohhhhh sooooo smooth. this is one of the best stouts i've tasted!

MaiBockAddict (1497) - Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA - FEB 4, 2004
Pours a really dark brown with a lasting dark tan head. Roasty chocolaty aroma, and if you really snort it, a touch of alcohol. Smooth full body and flavor fills the mouth. There are definitely no sharp edges here. Notes of chocolate and coffee blend nicely with perfect carbonation levels. Malt just coats the whole mouth and back of the throat. Bitterness seems mainly to come from roasted barley, which lingers a bit in the aftertaste. This is one damn well made brew. I might add that this is not a hop-heads RIS, but a malt heads RIS. And there are no defects that I can detect.

Nice and roasty. Dark in color with a brown head. Really good. Malty flavors. Some caramel. Good brew from them. Enjoyable.

21iceman40 (1735) - Grafton, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 3, 2004
Black, thick dark brown head. Has a chocolate strawberry aroma, kinda like when i get cold stone ice cream and they mix chocolate ice cream with strawberrys and chocolate syrup. Light body, bitter chocolates then to coffee. Nice and light with some solid power.

GermanBrews76 (680) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 1, 2004
black and totally opaque. chocolatey brown head, foamy soft and rolling. Musty, roastey and rich nose, with licorice and oak notes shining through. a bit vinuous with ripe berries. a bit sour and tart, dry chocolatey, dark and bitter finish. Raisins and currants emerge among the espresso.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2005 I’ve been hearing about this beer for a while from a friend. Don’t understand why it took me so long to snag one. Uopn my first sip, my taste-buds were dancing amiss a euphoric chocolate maltiness rounded off with a sweet roasted expesso bean aftertaste.

ClarkVV (6757) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 21, 2004
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2004 2003 bottle. Dark blackish-grey pour with small amount of thin mahogany-tan head. Smells of coffee, smooth but slightly acidic, with some extremely dark fruits in the background. Not my bag of fun, way too much dry coffee with a flavor that tastes stale, one-sided and slightly astringent. Mouthfeel is greasy, with a high bitter/acidity like it’s got bitter cocoa in it. Like a coffee stout gone bad. Didnt even finish, though I didnt have the heart to pour it out (so someone else did). I’ll rerate at some point.

Extreme Beer Fest Boston 2004: Has a very dark brown color and a roasted malt smell. Taste was kind of smooth malts and finished a bit sour. Overall not one of the better stouts, but pretty good.
