Served in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a mahogany color with a small just off white head. The head faded fast to give very little lacing.
Smell – The smell is largely of roasted malt mixed with an ever so light sweeter dark fruit.
Taste – The taste matches the nose quite well. A very nice roasted malt base is upfront and present throughout the taste. More towards the middle, a sweeter cherry flavor begins to develop and at the very end the malt and cherry flavors mix with very light spicy and earthy flavors.
Mouthfeel – Medium bodied with a medium carbonation level. A little thinner then desired, but not off putting in any way.
Overall – This was an aright brew. On the positive side, it has a very nice color with a great malt flavor and smell. While the malty flavor and smell are very nice, they make for a rather uni-dimensional taste, as the other flavors are really quite light in comparison to the malt flavor.

(Draught) Pours a deep amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, cherry cough syrup, enchilada sauce, tomatillo, and subtle peat/smoke. Flavor of tomatillo, green peppers, brown sugar, earth, smoked anaheims, and caramel. Odd.

Pours dark brown from tap with an inch of foam. Nice caramel notes on the tongue as well as a touch of molasses. There’s something about the aroma which wafts up through the nostrils. Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA on 7/1/11. Pours a clear dark orange-red color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Dark amber color, bottle poured. Not a huge aroma; maybe some caramel malt. Med-lite sweetness, slight bitter. Med-lite body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Man is this smooth! Great palate. Pours a deep russet topped with an inch or so of light brown head. The aroma is sweet malts, caramel, a touch of chocolate and a tiny hint of roast coffee, just lingering in the background is the merest hint of earthy spice. Tastewise again the malts dominate, sweet caramel and chocolate mainly, though without being overly sweet.
