4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow wow wow. Just wow. I wasn’t expecting to like this one. It has an intense honey aroma, hiding behind a very dark, malty brew. Very sweet, but much less sweet than the aroma suggests. One of the few beers that is this sweet that I actually enjoyed. Honestly, not very beer-like, but quite delightful. Aroma is mostly floral and fruity, dominated by the honey tones, but with a background of dark malt. Noticeably alcoholic but exceptionally smooth for its high alcohol content. Very well-executed. Expect something very different though if you try this one.
Dark brown with a smallish light tan head. Deep malty aromas with caramel, cocoa, honey and rich light fruit. Big and chewy feel. Acidity is rather strong and slightly distracting near the end, although it does help cut through the thickness. Ripe light fruit, pale malt and alcohol in the flavors. Thinness in the finish leads to a wood linger. Has some old ale qualities, but doesn’t quite deliver the entire route. 3/11

Dark amber color. Mild aroma, dark caramel. Medium body, caramel flavor, mild residual sweetness, no depth, but also no alcohol feeling.
pours a hazy deep brown with minimal head. aromas of dark fruits, raisins, honey and toffee. its a medium bodied brew with an oily texture and slight astringency. carbonation is moderate. its very sweet as expected but its balanced by significant bitterness. I get a lot of chocolate and raisin flavors from the malts. finishes with some alcohol warmth and steady bitterness. still a very strong ale. has not mellowed after 5+ years of cellaring fiery1 (1500) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 28, 2016

Brown. There’s some toasty, chocolate syrup malts. Sticky, with a mapley note. There is a sticky, almost mapley note. The palate is quite sticky, with a rich toffee character, light honey, and a hit of maple. Not particularly refined, but a honeyish barley wine.

Bottle - Light sweet honey and some plum notes. Deep copper with a small white head. Light sweet plum notes. Honey doesn’t stand out, plum and a thin body. lupulist (348) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 28, 2016
Pours a murky brown colour with no head. Aroma of honey, caramel, and dark fruits. Tastes of raisin sweetness, with dark malts. Sweet and heavy bodied. mcberko (18429) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 28, 2016
12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma is fairly oxidized, with bready malt, fermented out honey, and light toast. Flavour brings out medium honey, bready malt and toasted notes. Light sweetness on the finish. Not overly complex but it works. Pretty good for five years old. A deep dark reddish brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with loads of dark fruits, honey, fruit cocktail, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet boozy braggot with honey, dark fruits, chocolate notes, molasses, nice mouth feel, still solid. katrinaez (2139) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 24, 2015
