COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn’t live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

A dark clear brown dunkel with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet fruity caramel with molasses and light licorice, light solvent. In mouth, a nice smooth chocolate malt with coffee notes, lightly burned, a bit musty.

12oz bottle in a weizen glass. Pours brown with a fluffy, light beige head. Aroma some nutty and caramel malts, some wheat, a little chocolate, and floral hops. Flavor the same, with a nice blend of everything. Average texture. A good beer for the style.

Pours a cranberry brown color. Nose is yeast and fruity.Taste is yeasty and fruity, especially apple with some malt and chocolate. Finishes dry with a banana ending. First dunkelweizen, distinctive taste. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Pours a muddy brown with a dissipating tan head and aroma of wheat and fruits. Taste is toasty, of wheat, fruits, spices, apple, and bananna with a dry finish. Solid brew form Weyerbacher with lots of flavor.

Wonderfully bready nose, lots of malt character. Maybe some phenols? Very yeasty and pleasant. Nice head retention, khaki brown in color. Beer is definitely unfiltered, lots of sediment floating around. Color is a light brown that’s hazy. Taste is very clean, plenty of banana up front. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly slick like most of the Weyerbachers. Finishes slightly tart and boozy. Lasting light chocolate and toffee notes. Enjoyability 4.5/5. It’s tough to point out the flaws, and if anything, it’s a bit hot on the alcohol.

Pouts murky brown. Medium bodied head. Smells of banana bread. Wheat it's you on first taste. Then into banana raisin and caramel. Really nice ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Sean Bolan’s. Pours translucent chestnut brown with small beige head. Some thin lacing, low carbonation, medium body, and banana aroma. Taste is roasted malt, big estery banana, and hint of alcohol. Good dunkleweizen.

12 oz bottle from TheEpeeist poured into the Aventinus glass he gave me. Nose is ripe sweet banana, caramel, and a bit of floral and chocolate; only needing some whipped cream aroma to make it smell like a banana split. Murky amber with a big beige head. Flavor is malty banana and caramel with hints of bitter and chocolate. AFAIC a very good enjoyable dunkelweizen.

Pours chestnut brown with very little white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is citrus and banana. Texture is typical of a German wheat beer, but sweeter aftertaste. Very drinkable, but would like a little more body and a little less sweetness.

KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - JUL 8, 2012
Bottle. Pours an average mahogany with a nose of ashtray ash and cigarette. Flavor is cigarette plumb and molasses. Average mouthfeel. Not impressed.
