Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldnt live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

I am a big lover of German wheat beers, but this one is just too sweet. The originators do it better.

Total Wine, Chantilly 12oz ($3): I have finally found this beer. For some reason this is hard to find... Pours a muddy brown with a quickly dissipating head that leaves barely any lacing. Aroma is bananarama, with wheat, and some spice. Taste is bubblegum, banana, and some roasted malts. Taste is quite smooth. Body is somewhat thicker than most wheat beers. Leaves some of the sugary stickiness in the aftertaste. Quite good.

Pours a dark amber brown with a small tan head. Smells like dark fruits and spice. Taste is rich with dark fruits, chocolate, spices and sweet malts. Med-full bodied. After taste is rich but a little short. Good brew. I can drink this again.

Draft. Dark cloudy reddish brown pour with a fizzy off-white head. Concentrated dark wheat flavors. Typical yeasty bready esters (banana, etc.) but condensed enough now to read as dried red fruit. Good mouth feel. Creamy wheat body mixed with syrupy red malt. Certainly a fuller denser flavor than any other Dunkel I can call to mind, but still seems like a shotgun wedding of styles and flavors.

On tap 8 oz. pour at Adega Wine Cellar & Cafe in Silver Spring, MD. Hazy muddy, dark caramel brown with nice, fine, light tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of bananas, bread, wheat, dark fruits and yeast. Taste is a little sweet and a little tart with flavors of caramel, bready malt, yeast and bananas. Medium/light body and high carbonation. Spritzy mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is definitely a "Big Boy" wheat beer. Love the chocolate/cocoa nibs appeal. For a 7% brew, the wheat creaminess attempts to balance the booze. Highly Reccomend! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a cloudy brownish amber with medium off white head. Aroma and Taste is very fruity, sweet malt, sime banana notes, yeast with some hops bitterness. Palate is a medium body with a slightly thick and sticky mouthfeel and good carbonation. Finish is sweet malt, yeast, fruity with some banana notes and some bitterness on the end for balance. There are some notes of dark fruit, dates, raisins ans some light toasted malt as it warms up at the end. Overall a very good, tasty and enjoyable brew, very nice indeed.

Ruddy brown colored beer with an off-white head. Aromas are a bit rancid, of foul water, and rotten fruit. The taste is much better than the smell. Tastes of toffee, sweet caramel, sweet malts, some banana notes, and finishes on a bit of candy sugar. A bit cloying, sweet, dark fruit finish. Not bad, but not great.
