Poured oil black, with a thin, tan, bubbly head. Aroma is a lot of coffee and baked chocolate chip cookies. Taste is anything but tiny: big, robust notes of coffee and chocolate, with a smooth finish. The alcohol was not apparent at all.

12 oz bottle with a bottling date of 30 April 2015 and a BB date of 30 April 2017 in a Belgian snifter on 11 Dec. 2016. Pours, thick, essentially black, opaque, and with minimal signs of carbonation. Virtually no head or lacing. The aroma seems a bit off, even for the Belgian style: its quite mossy and earthy, with hints of fresh cut wood and black licorice. This characterization only partially carries over to the far more appealing flavor. Some molasses, burnt grain notes and light spicing. Overall: interesting and more than drinkable, but still disappointing, especially from Weyerbacher.

Pours a dark, almost black, brown. No head or lacing so it lost some points. Nice aroma of treacle, raisins, caramel. Tastes of treacle, raisins with hints of licorice, a little booze. A nice winter beer.

Nice easy dating on the bottle. Bottled September 28th 2016, best by September 28th 2018. It pours pitch black, small head of tan foam. I smell cloves, anise, candi sugar, dark fruit, roasted malt, alcohol. Ditto for the taste. Dark pitted fruit stand out more here than in the smell. Alcohol is manageable. Does it resemble a Belgian style Imperial Stout? You betcha. To me, full bodied with ample carbonation. This is quite a treat.

Pours from a 25.4 oz. bottle, consumed on 11-23-16. I purchased the bottle on the order of a year ago. Pours dark brown with a small amount of dark taupe head. Sweet aroma features scents of brown sugar, chocolate cake, pomegranate, and raisins. Merlot wine-like smell. Roasted, chocolate aroma with dry, pencil shavings, wood chips finish. The Belgian quality comes mostly in the form of a sugary sweetness than in discernable Belgian yeast character. Medium to full body. Reasonably lively. Forgettable palate effects. A pleasant and inoffensive beer but nothing special for an imperial stout.

Bottle. Brown color with tan head. Aroma is boozy, molasses, spicy yeasts. Taste is boozy, some raisins and prunes, again a bit spicy yeasts. Medium carbonation. Not my kind of beer.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle that was bottled on 06/29/16 with an expiration date of 06/29/18. It pours black as night with a modest tan head that fades. The aroma is quite bold with dark roast, black licorice, and some alcohol. Medium to full body. The alcohol burn takes over the taste which begins with a slight sweet dark roast character. Then there is an eruption of bitterness mingling with alcohol at the end.

Bottle from Berts Inky thick black with a stingy tan head. Roasty earthy with hints of caramel on the nose. Flavor follows the aroma but adds a bit of wet cardboard like oxidation. Decent beer.
