Corked bottle; courtesy of madsbergharrisoni (19529) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 5, 2009
Cloudy amber color, with big frothy head. Strong aroma, fruity hops in the front, bitter oranges, and then some cheesy yeast. Malt flavor, some caramel, too much yeast; strong bitterness, but also final astringency from the yeast.
Powerful but too rough.
Shared with Reakt, thanks Ang. Big Simcoes on the aroma. Fuller in the mouthfeel. No alcohol burn. What a joy to drink. This beer gave good hop well-being buzz. Weyerbacher and Simcoes just go together so well. brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 23, 2010
A: The pour is a hazy, dark amber color with a very fluffy off-white head on top.
S: The nose is full of fruity hops. An all out assault of grapefruit and pineapple. Man, I love simcoe.
T: There is a great bitterness up front which is quickly followed by a very juicy grapefruit flavor that just sticks to your tongue all the way to the finish. A nice bitter bite on the finish completes the sip.
M: The body is medium with a rather plentiful level of carbonation. The bitterness lingers a bit, but provides a nice crisp and refreshing feel to the beer.
D: That 9% ABV is nowhere to be found in the sip. This is an absolutely fantastic DIPA, and one of my new favorites, in fact. If only I could buy it out here in California.
